Working together for NBC at the Olympics, 76ers coach Doug Collins and Boston coach Doc Rivers caught up over dinner, talking hoops and sizing up the best big men in the NBA. Little did Rivers know, Collins was keeping a secret - a 7-foot sized one. ''He said, `Who do you struggle with?' I said, `Bynum,''' Rivers said with a smile. ''Doug almost choked on his soup. He knew the next day they were about to get him. It was pretty funny. I didn't appreciate it, but it was pretty funny.'' After a surprising run to the Eastern Conference semifinals allowed Philadelphia to shed a decade of mediocre basketball, the organization took a giant step in the summer, acquiring center Andrew Bynum from the Los Angeles Lakers, easily their most talented man in the middle since Moses Malone - and the best one in the East. All of those accolades come with one crucial caveat. Bynum, who turns 25 on Saturday, has to avoid further issues with his knees and ...

Boston Celtics new additions find favor with Doc Rivers

When the Boston Celtics first brought the "Big Three" together,( a moniker I believe belongs to Boston exclusively) KG affectionately coined the term "Ceatles" like the Beatles.  That term as well as "Ubuntu" was part of the impetus for banner 17. It is now five years later, and the "Ceatles" have changed a little bit under the hood. ...

Andrew Bynum’s hair is similar to the Don King look (Pictures)

Andrew Bynum has cultivated a new look since being traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Philadelphia 76ers over the offseason. The 24-year-old center has grown out his hair and is now sporting a healthy Afro. Unfortunately, the frilly nature and occasional off-color in his hair has led to some unfavorable comparisons. While some think he has the Don King going on, others have...

Andrew Bynum to remained sidelined until knee is pain free

Philadelphia76ers center Andrew Bynum will remain sidelined for the time being. It appears he is still having problems with his right knee and it doesn’t look like he will be ready for the 76ers season opener on October 31st. Bynum was the big off-season acquisition thatPhiladelphiamade over the summer. The idea of having a true big man on the 76ers roster automatically put them...

Doc: Enough Talk

Doc Rivers is done fighting the battle of words with Ray Allen. Chris Forsberg reports that the Celtics coach said, "'We're going to just let Ray keep talking... It's easier'" when interviewed earlier today. Doc is focused on creating a game plan to take down Miami, and I'm sure he just wants to get the distractions out of the way. Ray recently made...

Your Morning Dump… Where Doc doesn’t think Ray’s got his facts straight

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Asked about the potential Phoenix deal, Rivers said on Wednesday, “I didn’t even know it, so I’m surprised right now. I never knew that. I don’t think that’s true.” When asked for a rebuttal on Wednesday...

Six More Players Who Need To Be Better Than They Were Last Season

Last week I gave you my thoughts eight players who need to be better than they were last season.  Today I present to you six more, but in a bit of a different context.  Last Friday’s post, which included players such as Jimmer Fredette, Tyreke Evans, and Lance Stephenson, emphasized necessary improvement in a pretty individualistic sense.  I included a lot of guys who really...

Pop left out of Olympic mix?

The next Summer Olympics are still a little less than four years away, but the decision on who will be coaching the next men’s basketball team will have to be made well before that. It seems like it’s already been narrowed down to three candidates, Celtics coach Doc Rivers, 76ers coach Doug Collins and the San Antonio Spurs’ Gregg Popovich. There’s no arguing that either...

Celtics Set to Welcome Leandro Barbosa

The Celtics have reached a deal with Leandro Barbosa for the league minimum. What kind of impact will the veteran guard have on his new team? Probably not a large one. Not to take anything away from Barbosa, but the Celtics are loaded at the guard positions heading into the season. Plus, Barbosa is a huge liability on defense and really the only thing he would be able to contribute...

Leandro Barbosa not worried about playing time, which is good since he might not get much

One of the good things about having a deep and talented roster: Any veteran willing to sign a minimum deal probably cares more about winning than playing time.Leandro Barbosa understands that when everybody’s healthy, he’s probably fifth in the Celtics guard rotation. For someone who has averaged double digit points in six of the past seven seasons (including 11.1 last year and...
