The sky is falling!

"what if Baron opts out and leaves" geez i hope nobody in the bay area heard that

"What if Baron opts out and leaves"? There's a possibility I could watch him play a whole game without falling asleep (games here end at 1:00 AM). Just kidding. First and foremost I hope he stays in GS - he kinda is the Warriors, ya know.

I would hope that Baron stays with the Warrirors because he is a solid player and they need him. I think if the marriage between him and the Warriors ended it would be a sad day in the bay area!

You guys have got 8 expiring contracts and $47 mil spent this summer. You'll have some cash to go catch some good free agents and keep Monta. He's staying. Andris too.

- If Baron opts out, he wouldn't bolt. He would get max money here in the Bay.

- Monta will be signed to a long-term contract; We have the money readily available.

- If Andris isn't signed, I wouldn't be completely heart broken. Free agents galore in the off-season!

- If Nelson actually retires, then Keith Smart is the next best thing. Luckily for us, he is the Warriors assistant coach.

Golden State of the Union, "Nothing to worry about."

Holler!

We have cap room. We have a 10Million dollar expemption, We will have no problems signing Ellis and Beidrins and a pwer forward of our liking. Before you post your blog, get your facts staright!

If I'm not mistaken, the exception you're talking about is the trade exception generated by the Richardson deal. The fundamental problem with that exception is that in order to utilize it, the Warriors would have to trade a smaller contract for a larger one, which typically means trading younger talent for established talent. If Monta is considered off-limits then it would come down to trading Brandon Wright, which would ultimately prove to be very costly for the Warriors in the long-run. Other than Wright and Ellis, I don't see any smaller contracts that would be appealing to another franchise (at the very least on the terms you're speaking of, which net Golden State a decent PF).

That's not even mentioning the deadline on the exception, which may run out before Mullin can put together a workable trade.

I think the biggest problem with the Warriors is that they play in the WEST. Too many good teams, too many good players. Baron will bolt now that him and Nelly aren't getting along.

Sigh!

Really basketball Gods? Your only going to give us a one year reprieve from the hell that was 13 seasons? What is that? We have the best fans, a great atmosphere, and we cant get a break!! I will rage if Diddy, Monta and AB are not kept. No more season ticket money for you Cohen. Time to break out the wallet for The Bay!

Thanks for the comments guys.

jus10gee: The problem is the Dubs' ability to pay Monta, Baron, and Andris. I would seriously worry about the Warriors' ability to contend with the powerhouses of the West without Biedrins, and he might want a bit more than Mullin is willing to dish out. I wouldn't quite say that they would have room for free agents galore, either -- I think they would only have the mid-level and the veteran exceptions to work with. Keith Smart may be a good alternative to signing a new coach, but does he have enough of a pedigree to keep the locker room problem-free? No offense to Baron or Captain Jack, but their records aren't exactly spotless on that front. Just some things to think about.

opportunity cost!
it will be highly unlikely for baron to make more than the 17 million, the Warriors are paying him next year. Very few teams have the budget to afford Baron. I'd say 95% he stays a GSW!

if the dubs can shell out bad contracts to foyle, fisher, dunleavy, and murphy with the already large contracts of baron and j-rich... and there was a time when they were all on the team together, they shouldn't have a problem finding a way to keep monta and andris if they want them on the team together.
