NBA Offseason Rankings - Full Projections For All 30 Teams!

With baseball's playoff hunt in full effect and the NFL preseason underway, what better time than now to make some projections..for the NBA! Rosters are beginning to take formation as free agents join their new clubs, trades are consumated, and rookies settle in with their new squads. I've provided my projected records for the coming season along with last year's overall records. Please feel free to comment with your opinions.

1) Los Angeles Lakers - Projection (60 -22) - Last Season (57-25) - A healthy Andrew Bynum along with a younger corps than the Celtics make them the team to beat in the coming season.

2) Boston Celtics - Projection (58-24) - Last Season (66-16) - Defending champs have an aging but spectacular corps. Expect another step back from Ray Allen. The loss of Posey and potentially PJ Brown won't be as significant as many media heads are making them out to be.

3) New Orleans Hornets - Projection (58-24) - Last Season (56-26) - Chris Paul, David West, and Tyson Chandler are three young studs that will keep the Hornets relevant for years to come.

Ouch...17 kind of hurt a bit, being that I'm a Suns fan.

Kind of figured that wouldn't sit so well with Suns fans. Are you worried about this season or still confident the Suns can compete?

I'm worried, but IF they stay healthy they're still as good as anyone and I guarantee playoffs and 48+ wins.

I'm with Germar, I'm leaning towards believing they'll still make the Playoffs. And I definitely think we'll at least be a +.500 team.

I'm a little worried about this season, not so much because of my team but more so because of the other teams in the West. The Rockets got better, the Blazers have Oden & Bayless on top of all the talent they already had, Clippers are better. It's just the fact that an already stacked conference managed to improve and the Suns already had their difficulties last year. So we'll see.

By "ouch that hurt" I just mean the whole "fat cactus" and their projected record.

Pretty solid rankings. Rockets at 4 is good.

fun read and a different take than just about anything else I've read. I think the Spurs are done, but so many people still think they're a top three team. The Pistons will still be good and I think contend.

You really think the Spurs are done for? They're old, yes, but they've still got Duncan, Parker and Ginobilli. You can't really go wrong with a big three like that. Can you? They're still a big threat, in my opinion.

spurs can still make the playoffs, but that "dynasty" is done

Bruce Bowen is the picasso of fouling. Every night its some new type of foul he creates from the infamous karate kick to Szcerbiak, some street fighter style bodyslam and a leg sweep mortal kombat style he did to Jamal Crawford ..this guy just amazes me with the art of fouling and how know no fights back...Really he should co author a book with Jason Collins (WORST player in NBA) and Eddy Curry (Offensive Foul Machine, i dont blame him, dude is too big) on the art of fouling.

The Flopping Spurs are done, they got lucky with that extra couple days off in the Hornets Series (every other series except this was one day off, Spurs had 3 or 4) for Duncan, Ginobili and every 35 yr older on the team minus Tony Parker,...David Stern scumbag fixing it so it could be Lakers vs. Spurs. Spurs are going to be in the bottom of the West now with Clippers, Blazers, GSW blazing by them....

Their never done for, the big three have been the only ones to score and they have still found ways to beat the suns by a few points, the D keeps them in the playoffs and in every series

So true, PJ.

nice list i would put Shawn Kemp and Detlef Schremps team at one though....and Harold Miner and Glen Rices at two....My Knicks hahah, ill agree wherever they are bc they do suck as a team, but talent wise they have enough to be a pretty decent team if they worked as a team, but that still has yet to be seen.....

Wizards are too high on this list.....and Suns are too low..The Suns should put Shaq on some mandatory workout plan or something...You would expect to get slower as you get older and Shaq fits that cliche, A couple players that get prove the cliche wrong and oftenly get posterized would be a couple of Hoyas in Mutombo and Mourning. As old as they are, they show more heart n passion than O'neal has in the past years and they are a lot older than this oaf..The only thing Oneal doing now a days is running his big mouth when he should be running down the court dunking on everyone.....Critic aside, I can see the Suns in the playoffs probably facing the Spurs and seeing Bruce Lee Bowen karate kicking Shaq back to KazaamLand.

I honestly see Shaq as a liability at this point in his career, especially on this team that was built to run. Amare's a stud but he's really going to have to carry this team. Nash eventually has to begin to take a step back, this could be the year.

Don't put the Kings too low. Last year's 38-44 team had Artest off the court for 25 games, not to mention Martin out for 21 games. Can't count out John Salmons' 18 PPG when he started 41 games.

Let's not forget the $58m offer made to Josh Smith by Memphis. If Atlanta can't match it, Memphis moves up, Atlanta moves down.

While I think the list is pretty solid at the top and at the bottom, the middle is what'll make this season interesting. The Mavs are still a good team. So are the Suns. The fate of the Clippers, Raptors and Warriors (maybe I am biased because I am a GS fan) can go either way, better or worse than what's being projected, and that'll affect how the Mavs and the Suns end up doing.

On a personal note, I hate the fact that Utah (bane of the Warriors) and San Antonio (boring) have great teams.

Absolutely agree. If Smith signs with Memphis, I'll be updating the rankings immediately. In fact, the Hawks might slip to the basement. However, I don't think there's a chance they let Smith go anywhere and will match the offer. They've already got egg on their face after letting Childress slip away.

suns r right where they should be they will be lucky to make the playoffs shaq sucks. All the suns did was extended the money for 2 more years that marion would of taken off their books after this year when he left which who knows for sure but they could of used that to get brand or maybe josh smith.

citymang you are right that if smith isnt on the hawks they move down but if he goes to memphis they dont move up memphis sucks. the sixers will be a surprise this year on one condition as long as brands knees hold up.

Actually Brand's injury was an achilles tendon, which once healed is supposed to be like new. I'll still keep my fingers crossed, but I'd be much more concerned if it were knee issues.

How can the Lakers possibly be ranked higher than the defending champs? Did the creator of said rankings somehow manage to forget the score in game 6 of the Finals?

Creator of said rankings included a healthy Andrew Bynum and aging Celtics core.

C's fan myself...yet simple: healthy Bynum and loss of Posey...yet, we will see

WOOHOO!!
Lakers #1 all day
we will win a championship this year

i like where the sixers are at 5, the additon of rush is huge gives them a solid offensvie player

I hope, want that Celts-Sixers rivalry back

portland trailblazers & the celtics only teams to watch. EVERYONE gonna be watching the trailblazers vs kobe game....what a team we got...WHAT A TEAM !!

how can you have 7 east coast teams in your top 14? did you forget about the playoff race this past season? All 8 west coast teams that make the playoffs this season will be above .500 as well as the top 1 or 2 lottery teams. The east had 5 above .500 and one (raptors) at 500. last playoffs. Your devaluing of the spurs, suns, and pistons is also way over done. None of those teams lost any significant players so far this offseason and all three are class act organizations. The sixers are way too young and inexperience to be ranked so highly and the fact that Ricky Davis, a guy who has only been to the playoffs twice in 10 seasons, is on the clippers means that they are more than likely destined to the lottery. that and the fact that only 4 players are holdovers from last season cannot bode well for them. Especially since two of them are cutino mobley and tim thomas the softest 6'10" guy in the league.

Good question. I think the balance of power shifted a bit after the Suns and Mavericks made all or nothing trades last year (both which resulted in nothing). I don't think there is any fair argument that either of these teams will be as good as they've been in the past...though of course I'm willing to listen. In addition, I think most will agree that both the Bulls and Heat underachieved last year and will improve.

Denver nuggets At 18 i kno they don't have marcus but dame that to low

I would agree with you ,except Paul Pierce the greatest player in the world is still on the Celtics. The banner will belong to them !!!!!
