The Denver Nuggets have stayed true
to form in this year's NBA draft. They
traded away their first round pick in 2010 for the sensational point guard from
last year's NCAA championship team. Ty
Lawson hopes to be the future point guard of the Nuggets and the heir to
Chauncey Billups. Billups sat in on
draft day and was glad to see the Nuggets pick up a young, spry and highly
athletic back up to share minutes on the court with.
"I think maybe a couple minutes
less would help keep my energy level up," Billups commented during his
mid-summer basketball camp.
Billups is looking forward to his
future seasons with the Nuggets and has all the confidence in the world that he
will play up to his previous seasons levels.
On the other hand, a little more time off the court cannot hurt the 32
year old point guard. Lawson is looking
to provide that much needed relief.
"I feel like I'm better than most
of the point guards in that draft," Lawson said. "I'm ready to prove people wrong, and show
all the (general managers) that passed up on me what they just lost."
The Nuggets will be happy to fill a
position in their back court where their current back up, Anthony Carter is
also pushing an age of 30 plus. Carter,
a free agent this year, has no illusions about Lawson's position on the
team.
This year looks to be a promising
one as the Nuggets look to make another run deep into the playoffs.
