Monday gave us news that the Portland Trail Blazers’ crutch aficionado Greg Oden will miss the entire season after undergoing microfracture surgery on his left knee. It’s the former first overall pick’s second such procedure on that knee and third overall. It’s quite possible Oden, whose contract is up after this season, is done in Portland.
Adding insult to injury, The Oregonian posted a by-the-numbers breakdown of the oft-injured center’s career. And it is not pretty:
20,800,000: Dollars paid by the Blazers
26,908: Dollars per point
82: NBA games played in since being selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 draft
61: Games played in the 2008-09 season
21: Games played in the 2009-10 season
9.4: Career scoring average (773 career)
7.3: Career rebounding average (602 career)
3: Microfracture surgeries (2 on left knee, 1 on right)
0: Games played in the 2007-08, 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons
Hey, here’s a number: 82, the combined amount of points Kevin Durant, who was picked ...

Portland Trail Blazers, Greg Oden, and the career that should have been
It was announced yesterday that Greg Oden of the Portland Trail Blazers, had his third microfracture surgery in 4 years. That’s unbelievable! Three microfracture surgeries in 4 years, that has to be some kind of record (I’m about to get Ripley on line 1). At this point I question if there are any original parts in his knees. I image that he knees are full of Silly Putty...

Since leaving the Ohio State Buckeyes for his predicted one-and-done season, Portland Trail Blazers center Greg Oden has played 82 games in the NBA. That’s a full non-lockout shortened season. Problem is Oden wasn’t drafted first overall in 2010 or 2011. It was 2007.

Greg Oden’s Broken Career & The Reason Why It Hurts So Much
I found myself two tables away from a conference room’s closed doors in June of 2007. I watched Portland general manager Kevin Pritchard, Martell Webster, LaMarcus Aldridge and the rest of the Trail Blazers walk into the restaurant’s private section, and then close the doors. It was a day before the NBA Draft, and Portland [...]
Will Blazers release Oden to free up roster spot to sign Przybilla?
Last year at this time, Joel Przybilla wasn’t even sure if he’d survive the February 24 NBA trade deadline and be a part of the Portland Trail Blazers for the rest of their season.
Now twelve months later and not having played since last March after a trade to Charlotte, the free agent center is back in limbo with the Blazers. Except this time around, Portland is playing the...
