Alex Rodriguez And Marc Lore Insist That They Will Own The Timberwolves: 'It’s Just A Matter Of Time…'

In another statement released this week, prospective team owners Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore conveyed confidence that their purchase of the Timberwolves will be completed. Lore told Sportico that it’s just a “matter of time” before they end up with the franchise.

“We’re going to be the owners of the Minnesota Timberwolves,” Lore said. “It’s just a matter of time, and how much pain Glen wants to put the fans, the players, the town and community through. It’s his choice. It didn’t have to be this way… we’re dealing with someone that is very comfortable operating that way, and we have to take whatever actions are necessary to protect our childhood dream here.”

According to Glen Taylor, team governor since the 90s, he only called off the sale because Lore and Rodriguez “failed” to meet the requirements by the deadline. In a statement released yesterday, he called out the business partners for failing to follow through on their obligations and now he intends to keep the team for himself. 

“Under certain circumstances, the buyer could have been entitled to a limited extension,” said Taylor. “However, those circumstances did not occur.”

It’s unknown what comes next in this saga, but we can expect a long and hard fight in the weeks and months to come as Lore and his partners look to finalize the purchase. If things get really bad, it could escalate to the courts where the matter is likely to draw on for many years.

At this point, everything hinges on Taylor and how hard he wants to fight to kill this sale before it happens. For now, with full control in his hands, there is nothing to be done about Taylor’s position on the team but he maybjave no choice but to surrender ownership rights depending on what kind off agreement he made with Rodriguez and Lore. Either way, this serves as a major distraction for a Timberwolves team looking to make a name for themselves in the Western Conference.

Minnesota Timberwolves Can Make A Run In The West

Unlike most of their time in the NBA, the Timberwolves have actually been competitive this season and they look like a team poised to make a major run in the West. Even with all of this ownership drama happening playing out for the whole world to see, the Wolves are finding success and weathering the storm.

With a 50-22 record, Minnesota is 2nd in the West and just a half-game back from the Nuggets for the number one seed. All season long, the Timberwolves have been among the best defensive teams in the league and their consistency on that end has held up even through various injuries.

There’s also the Anthony Edwards factor. The young superstar is quickly rising the ranks of NBA superstardom and this season is his finest yet with averages of 26.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game on 56% shooting.

Historically, the Timberwolves have never been super relevant in the title race but 2024 could be the year that have a breakthrough and they cannot allow a simple ownership dispute to get in the way of that.

This offseason will be the ultimate tesy for Edwards and this Wolves team. If they can endure and ignore all the distractions, it could set them up to take full control of the Western Conference for many years to come.
