To the surprise of no one Andrew Bynum’s season with the Philadelphia 76ers is done and he didn’t play a single minute this season.Philadelphia 76ers center Andrew Bynum will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his knees Tuesday and miss the rest of the season. Bynum you may recall was a center piece for the Sixers in the Dwight Howard trade. Many experts believed Bynum was heading for big things and it would be interesting to debate who was better Bynum or Howard? Sadly Bynum career is starting to shape up in the wrong direction with the arrow point down, think of Eddy Curry when he was with the Bulls and when he first was trade to the Knicks then think of his career after that. Is Bynum heading in that direction? One would hope not. He is still young enough to rebound for the knee injuries and have a good career, but this has turned out to be a costly trade for the 76ers, Bynum will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. He made $16.9 million this season in the final year of his contract. The 76ers are torn on how they’ll proceed in offering Bynum a contract to stay with the franchise, as are potential suitors around the league. The Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks have the salary-cap space and need to make a serious bid for Bynum. A big issue for the Sixers is that Bynum has a degenerative knee problems and his career could be in jeopardy. Will the Sixers try to keep him or will they go in another direction? The trading deadline has passed so it isn’t as if they could trade him now, they can’t and this year is over for both the Sixers and Bynum. The Sixers gave up promising young players, Nik Vucevic and Mo Harkless to the Magic, and sent All-Star Andre Iguodala to the Denver Nuggets as part of the deal. There could be a fall out in the offseason is Bynum isn’t a Sixer after this season meaning there could be headed for significant changes in their front office and coaching staffs.
