Magic rookies have begun to take over the lineup. Maurice Harkless made his first career start Wednesday against Detroit and it is becoming clear that the coaching staff is gaining confidence in his ability and potential. Andrew Nicholson too has made an impact coming off the bench for the Magic. Even Kyle O'Quinn made his non-garbage time debut Wednesday night against Detroit with Nikola Vucevic and Glen Davis fighting off foul trouble. Jacque Vaughn and the Magic staff are gaining confidence in their young players and they are largely delivering -- with still some rookie mistakes to correct and be aware of. Nicholson has been the biggest producer, and he might have been the most developed rookie coming into the team. Nicholson was a superb scorer in college, averaging 18.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game in his senior year at St. Bonaventure. His footwork and overall court sense caugh fans' eyes in the preseason and he continues to push for more and more playi...

J.J. Redick embracing sense of community

Do not think it happenstance when J.J. Redick sends defenders flying by him with his shot fake. Neither should you think it a coincidence the number of times Redick finds himself isolated in a pocket of space, basketball in hand and no defender in sight. Instead, credit Redicks attention to detail. The sharpshooter has it in abundance. On Tuesday night, Redick took a small break...

Magic 90, Pistons 74

Andrew Nicholson scored 15 points, Glen Davis had 11 points and 14 rebounds, and Orlando used a 21-0 run to open the third quarter to earn a 90-74 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night. Orlando struggled to compete with Detroit's big men early, but used the big spurt to blow open the game. The surge included a more than 10-minute scoring drought by the Pistons...

Redick's free throws win it for Magic

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Making clutch free throws at the end of games was old hat for J.J. Redick when he was playing at Duke University. "But you don't see that happen much in the NBA," Redick said. It happened Friday night when Redick went 8 for 8 from the line in the final 22 seconds to help the Orlando Magic preserve a 108-104 victory over the Cavaliers. It was...

Big Baby Davis went 4 deep into the crowd last night

Waiters, Cavaliers fall short vs. Magic

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Jameer Nelson had 22 points, Arron Afflalo scored 19 and the Orlando Magic rallied to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 108-104 on Friday night. Glen Davis had 10 of his 16 points in Orlando's big fourth quarter. Nelson also finished with six assists. Dion Waiters scored 25 points for Cleveland, and Anderson Varejao had 19. The Magic have won two straight...

Happy Thanksgiving!

The Magic entered the holiday with a win against the Pistons. But the real meaning of the holiday for the Magic is the yearly community service the Magic participate in every year at this time. Jameer Nelson, Maurice Harkless, Glen Davis and Jacque Vaughn were among the players who went to the Coalition for the Homeless to serve meals this morning. The Magic have gone to the...

Next Up - Big Baby and the Magic

The Celtics are headed to Orlando for a game Sunday night. In their last game they conquered old friend Kendrick Perkins and next up they face old friends Glen Davis and E'Twaun Moore. Big Baby is now the man in Orlando with Dwight gone and I'm sure he's enjoying it. I thought I'd include a video from Baby's last game to get everyone ready for the Magic game...

Magic 108, Cavaliers 104

ORLANDO -- J.J. Redick went 8 for 8 from the free-throw line in the final 22 seconds to help the Orlando Magic hold off the Cleveland Cavaliers 108-104 on Friday night at the Amway Center. Jameer Nelson led the Magic with 22 points, six assists and six rebounds and Arron Afflalo contributed 19 points, but it was Redick's foul shooting that preserved Orlando's fourth win...

Magic soar in 4th to defeat Cavaliers

Glen Davis does not know how to stop himself -- in fact he knows he can't. When the ball is bouncing toward the sideline with a chance to be save, he said he has to go for it. He has to try and sacrifice himself for his team. Fans just have to know either to catch him or get out of the way. As Davis soard over two, maybe three rows, of fans courtside at the Amway Center,...

Pistons’ embarrassing third quarter leads to 90-74 loss to the Orlando Magic

Things have certainly been tough for Lawrence Frank and the Pistons so far this season. After starting the season with just two wins in the first 11 games, Detroit was looking to capitalize on a dominating effort against Boston from the other night. However, it was the Pistons dominating themselves Wednesday night in Orlando. After connecting on just 28 of their 85 field goal attempts...

Magic leave Pistons with nothing in record-setting 3rd quarter

There were not any nuggets of wisdom for Jacque Vaughn to share after Orlando put the finishing touches on a 90-74 victory over Detroit at Amway Center on Wednesday. There was no inspirational speech or enlightening words for Vaughn -- or really anyone -- to share to explain what happened in the third quarter. It really might have been as simple as the team putting in the right...
