As I posted a few days ago the seasoned veteran Antawn Jamison is getting close to where he will play what will be his last contract in the National Basketball Association. Being that he is a native of the state, was a star in the North Carolina Basketball program, and has his home in the Charlotte area it would make sense that the 14 year small forward could be leaning towards staying close to home and help a team that could definitely use his type of guidance. However, from an article of the Charlotte Observer, it seems there are plenty of other franchises that would like to have Jamison’s services.

“I’d try and help point the Bobcats back in the direction they were once before. And being here and being able to be around all this, with my kids like this, that’s huge.”

The four franchises mentioned are: Warriors, Lakers, Heat and Nets. With the first two it would mean that the former Tar Heel under head coach Dean Smith would be even farther away from his family than he was in Cleveland. With the LA franchise, which has improved by getting point guard Steve Nash, I am still not sure that they would be the odds on favorite in the West. Heck, listening to some NBA analysts they might not be the best in the city. With the second franchise on the other side of the country he would join rookie Harrison Barnes, which could be a good thing, but again, if the question for the veteran is “staying home or going for a ring” I just do not see Golden State as an option, even if it is where 6’9″ forward began his NBA career in `98. The next team could be the new Brooklyn franchise, which if they were to get Dwight Howard could be the best team in New York, they are still 3rd or 4th team in the East. Finally we would have Miami, and with the squad coming off a title, adding some pieces to get better, this team could easily give Antawn Jamison not just one but a couple of titles if he was to stay three years with them.

“A lot of teams would like my services,” Jamison said. “So it’s just going to be what feels right.”

Up until I read that one of the teams that was persuing the former North Carolina basketball star was the Miami Heat I would have liked him to go to the Charlotte Bobcats. But being on a team so close to home that definitely gives him a chance at winning it all has to be looked at, and looked at very carefully. As I said in another post there is no doubt in my mind that Jamison would help any team, both on the court and in the locker room, while there is no guarantee that he could win a title with anyone, including with the Heat, the decision must truly be a hard one and I am sure one that the forward will think on for a while still. As usual, as I do with all the present and former Heels, let me wish all the best to Antawn Jamison as he ponders the decision about what could be his last journey as a pro basketball player.
