Big Baby could be headed to the Big House following insurance fraud conviction

Former Boston Celtics forward and 2008 champion Glen Davis was convicted yesterday for his involvement in an insurance plan fraud scheme. Formner Detroit Piston Will Bynum was also convicted.

More than 20 people have been convicted in the case, many of them onetime NBA players who submitted fictitious dental and medical claims to the NBA Players' Health and Benefit Welfare Plan. Terrence Williams, a 2009 first-round draft pick of the New Jersey Nets, was sentenced in August to a decade in prison as a ringleader of the scheme.

"Today's conviction exemplifies that despite notoriety or success in sports or any other field, no one is exempt from criminal charges if they engage in fraud," U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement.

Another former Celtic Tony Allen received a sentence of three years probation. Since yet another former Celtic Terrence Williams was considered the ringleader, it's doubtful that Davis will also get ten years. But any jail time is signifcant.

It's natural to feel sorry for Big Baby, but millionaires defrauding a Health and Benefit Welfare Plan is a horrible look.
