The odds of Boston earning a win against a hot Orlando Magic team on Monday night did not look good. The Celtics being called banged up would be the understatement of the year. The team was playing without Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen, Mickael Pietrus, Keyon Dooling, and Chris Wilcox. However, Boston knew that they needed this win. In order to pick up this win someone needed to step up and provide the spark. Avery Bradley was that spark on the defensive end of the floor that propelled Boston to a record setting defensive night that saw them cruise to a 87 to 56 demolishing of Orlando. Avery Bradley set the tone the entire night by playing like a pit bull against Jameer Nelson. Nelson was eaten alive by Bradley as the Magic point guard looked unable to have any answers for Bradley’s tight defense. Jameer could not get off any shots as Bradley looked as if he was glued to him. Bradley would not even let Jameer anywhere near the paint as he would beat him to the spot all night and kee...

Your Morning Dump... Bradley's defense is frustrating and contagious

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. “I can tell (when opponents get frustrated). Sometimes they talk to me,” he said. “They’ll say, ‘You can get back a little bit, you don’t have to pick me up all the time,’ and when they start talking...

Avery Bradley developing strong confidence in defensive abilities

The game plan didn’t initially call for Avery Bradley to harass Jermaine O’Neal for 94 feet on every possession.“It really wasn’t (the plan), but I told Doc, ‘I’m going to pick him up for the whole game,’” Bradley said after spending his night repeatedly shutting a door on Jameer Nelson’s fingers. “He kinda looked at me...

Avery Bradley's Defense Pisses Jameer Nelson Off

In last night's 87-56 victory over Orlando, Avery Bradley's constant pressure on defense inspired the rest of the Celtics to turn in one of the team's best defensive performances this season. However, Avery revealed in a post-game interview that his full-court pressure annoyed Magic point guard Jameer Nelson so badly that Nelson actually asked Bradley to ease up. From...

Your Morning Dump... Where Avery Bradley dominated on D

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Bradley took the veteran former All-Star apart for 30 grueling minutes. He forced five turnovers, including an 8-second violation when Nelson couldn’t get the ball over halfcourt. After it was over...

With Strong Play of Late, Avery Bradley Making Case As A Future Starter, Making Rondo Tradeable?

With Rajon Rondo out to a wrist injury over the past three games, Avery Bradley has earned the nod as the starting point guard for the Boston Celtics over the last week. Prior to earning the temporary starting role, most fans either: A. had no clue who Avery Bradley was B. had no clue what [...]

Taking Stock: Celtics - Magic

After every game, we'll take stock of how each individual performance affects the player's overall value. Starters Avery Bradley:  Avery Bradley was so close to Jameer Nelson all night long that I think they're now legally married in Massachusetts.  His defense changed the entire game, which is good, because Avery's offense is still not good.  I'...

Celtics destroy Magic 87-56

Let me begin by apologizing for not recapping the Celtics' win over Washington on Sunday. In fact, let me do that now. Paul Pierce was good. The Wizards are the craptastic. End of summary. On to tonight, where the Celtics strutted out a lineup that I'm pretty sure included Huey, Duey and Louie. They then proceeded to absolutely embarrass the bejesus out of...

Recap: High energy Celtics ***** slap the Magic

What the hell just happened? The Celtics unleashed a defensive buzz saw tonight on the Orlando Magic. The final score: 87-56. A Celtics team missing FIVE rotation players beat down the 11-win Magic. A Celtics team on the second night of back-to-back games throttled a team that hadn't played in two days. This was supposed to be the lock of all locks. Not in our house! Kevin...

Off the Dribble: Bradley Revives Boston Defense With One-Man Press

Celtics backup guard Avery Bradley proved the wisdom of a one-man press with his impressive performance against Orlando.

Ray Allen not with the Celtics as they leave for Orlando

This shouldn't come as a huge surprise as the Celtics will make sure that Ray's as close to 100 percent as possible before bringing him back. We knew going into the season that, for the vast majority of the C's, it will take a little longer for them to recover from these types of bumps and bruises. In addition, A. Sherrod Blakely informed us that Ray and his...

Comments From the Other Side - Magic 1/23

I love gathering these comments when fans start out guaranteeing a win and end up eating crow. Truthfully, the Celtics surprised me and I'm always expecting a win. Interesting how Magic fans turned on their team by the end of the game. Big Baby doesn't have a lot of fans in Orlando right now. This was a great win for the Celtics. Not bad for a bunch of "old guys...

A neat trick by Celtics

There was a point in last night’s game when Magic guard Jameer Nelson just wanted to pass the ball, to anybody. He spent the evening being hounded defensively by the Celtics’ Avery Bradley, and by the time he reached the frontcourt with any type of space, there were only 11 seconds left on the 24-second clock.

Wizards vs. Celtics: Open thread for Game 16

The Wizards will conclude their four-game homestand against Boston. The Celtics have won the first two meetings, but they will be without all-star point guard Rajon Rondo, who will miss his second game in a row with right wrist injury. Avery Bradley – who actually was rated ahead of John Wall in high school – will get the start. Read full article >>
