Found January 21, 2013 on Celtics 24/7:
After a winning streak that was supposed to turn their season around the Celtics have reverted to their early season play and right now are looking as flat as any team in the NBA. With last night’s loss in Detroit coach Doc Rivers put his whole team on alert: “[The start of game] was awful, we are playing awful. I’m clear not doing my job with this team. And I’m serious, I’m not trying to take a bullet for the team. And I told them that. I said, ‘We got to find something where every night, all 12 guys play the same way.’ We did it for three games in a stretch. I told them that games 4 and 5 in that [six-game] winning streak were garbage; We just won the game. I gotta figure that out. I told the guys that, I gotta figure it out. Because I don’t think the guys are honest with each other. I just don’t think we have committed to being a good basketball team. “I think this team wants everything easy. They want the easy way out. They want to win easy. And I told them the only way you’re going to win easy is your going to have to play hard. The harder you play, the easier the games become. We’re taking the wrong approach. I gotta either find the right combination, the right guys, or we’re going to get some guys out of here. It’s the bottom line. Because this group right now, they are not playing right. It’s in them to play right. But right now they haven’t been — either because I’m not getting to them, or they are not getting to each other. But at the end of the day, either we gotta do that, or we gotta make changes.” Are changes really coming? Here are some of the more recent trade rumors involving the Celtics. J.J. Redick: @DavidBaumann33 on twitter: As Feb. 21 #NBA trade deadline looms, sources tell me the Boston Celtics covet Orlando Magic SG J.J. Redick. Redick is a solid shooter and plays gritty defense for his size, but don’t we already have enough shooting guards? Who would be the one to go if we brought in J.J.? Josh Smith: The Hawks will have a huge amount of cap space for this summer’s free agent frenzy. Dwight Howard and Chris Paul are targets No. 1 and No. 1a right up until both re-sign with their current teams or another team. Things could get interesting after that when Smith may be the next best player available. Danny Ferry will have plenty of questions facing him from who the head coach of this team will be to whether or not Smith is worth the sizable investment it will take to re-sign him. This one is more of a pipe dream as the Celtics haven’t been mentioned besides Smith’s name in a while. My hope is the magical Danny Ainge can find something that works, but it’s definitely a long shot. Leandro Barbosa: A blogger in Brazil broke the story that Barbosa wanted out of Boston. That has since been disproven, but it isn’t a crazy thought. In limited playing time Barbosa has shown flashes, but backing up one of the leagues top point guards can’t be easy. I could see him moving as part of a deal, but right now it makes no sense for the Celtics to let him go. Greg Oden: Remember him? That guy we were ready to pencil in as the next Bill Russell and give him the keys to Boston? Fortunately for Celtics fans we went entered the Big 3 era instead and came away with championship banner, but could Danny Ainge be revisiting an old crush? Here is what he had to say: “Yeah, so we’re monitoring Greg, like all the NBA teams are, but we have not attempted to sign him,” Ainge said Thursday. “But we are monitoring him and having (conversations) with his people just to see where he’s at.” Oden hasn’t played in an NBA game since December 2009, and reportedly wouldn’t return until the 2013-14 season. “I don’t think (he’d be ready to play this year),” Ainge said. “I don’t know any of that for sure, but I would suspect that anybody that would sign him would have their eyes looking more towards his contribution in the future than now.” For all you loyal Boston Celtics fans, make sure you continue to keep up with the latest results, news and upcoming matches. Doc Rivers was upset after the Celtics lost to the Pistons, and he unloaded on his team. See what the Boston coach said.

Doc Rivers: trades are on the way if team doesn't start to "play hard"

If you thought the trade rumors were bad before, just wait. According to Boston Globe writer Gary Washburn, Doc Rivers ripped into the Celtics Sunday night after their loss to Detroit 103-88. One tactic he unleashed was threatening to shakeup the roster to get players who are “committed to being a good basketball team.” I gotta either find the right combination, the right...

The problem(s) with Boston Celtics trade scenarios

Jay mentioned this in his recap last night, but Doc Rivers made a very significant statement after Boston’s disappointing loss to Detroit. From CSNNE:“I gotta either find the right combination or the right guys, or we’re going to get some guys out of here,” said a visibly upset Rivers after the Celtics lost their third straight game. “That’s the bottom line. This group...

Rivers hints at possible changes after Celtics' loss

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Doc Rivers can't stand mediocrity. If his Boston Celtics don't shape up soon, he wants some of his players shipped out. Rivers, the Celtics' coach, was mortified by his team's third straight loss, a 103-88 thumping by the Detroit Pistons at The Palace on Sunday. His club never had a lead as it sank to .500 nearing the season's midway point...

Doc Rivers upset, threatens changes

Everyone is waiting for Boston to make that inevitable run that the team always seems to have within it. The Celtics are a veteran team with championship aspirations and knows exactly how to pace themselves. Something though seems off about the 20-20 Celtics and they seem much more in the thick of the fight near the bottom of the Eastern Conference. In perhaps a motivational...

Danny Ainge backs off Doc's "get some guys out of here" quote

Ainge continues to insist he likes the team as is. After the loss in Detroit on Sunday night Celtics head coach Doc Rivers went on a bit of a tirade, saying that if he couldn't find the right combination to get his team to play hard they were going to have to "get some guys out of here."  Yesterday team president Danny Ainge dialed down Doc's comments a bit, and...

Kyrie Irving Goes Off as Celtics Fail to Respond to Coach Doc Rivers’ Challenge

So, who is going to be the first guy out the door? We are joking, of course. The Celtics are not going to ship out anybody as a knee-jerk reaction for a four-game losing streak, even if coach Doc Rivers did threaten moves just a few days ago if his players did not adjust their attitudes quickly. But anyone hoping for a reactionary move by Celtics president of basketball operations...

Celtics Coach Doc Rivers Threatens Moves, But History Shows Midseason Trades Seldom Have Major Impact

By now you have probably heard that Doc Rivers agreed with our assessment of the Celtics’ play on Sunday, when an uninspired effort in Detroit produced a third consecutive loss. The Boston coach went on the attack after the game, threatening major changes if the players do not bring a winning attitude more consistently. “We’re taking the wrong approach,” Rivers told reporters...

Celtics Doc Rivers Submits Video To NBA After Bulls Defeat

According to Comcast SportsNet New England, Celtics coach Doc Rivers will submit a video of the crucial play that the officials ruled a jump ball against the Chicago Bulls on Friday night to the league. Danny Ainge: “I don’t see major changes coming.”

We mentioned yesterday that it would be difficult to make a trade with the Celtics’ roster as currently constructed, and Danny Ainge confirmed those sentiments somewhat indirectly today with comments about Doc’s post-game outburst in Detroit. From MassLive:President of basketball operations Danny Ainge indicated that a big trade is easier threatened than done.“Realistically...

Avery Bradley will try to play against the Pistons tonight

According to Comcast SportsNet New England, Avery Bradley will try to participate in today's shootaround before the game against the Detroit Pistons, and subsequently see if he will be able to play through the pain of his rib injury that he sustained against the Hornets. Avery Bradley's status for tonight's game against Detroit is still up in the air, though the 6...

Celtics Struggle in Cleveland 95-90

On Tuesday night the Celtics played their second of two road games, this time in Cleveland against the Cavaliers. The Celtics came in off a bad loss to the Detroit Pistons that caused Doc Rivers to make some harsh statements. Following their loss Doc threatened that if this team didn't get it together big changes were ahead. The team looked to bounce back and stop their three...

Boston Celtics Remain Consistent With Inconsistency in Four-Game Span

Photo by AP It seems as though the Boston Celtics are right where they started–square one. This season has been full of incomplete performances by Doc Rivers’ group, but especially when it comes to  Tuesday’s loss against Kyrie Irving and the Cleveland Cavaliers (11-32). Granted Irving did post a 40-point performance, but there should be no excuse for the players to display...

Your Morning Dump… Where Doc puts everyone on notice

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. “I think this team wants everything easy. They want the easy way out. They want to win easy. And I told them the only way you’re going to win easy is your going to have to play hard. The harder you play, the...
