This one stings a bit. The Memphis Grizzlies, without starting PG Mike Conley, came out torching the Cavaliers’ defense on their first few possessions. It looked like it could be a predictably rough game. But then Anderson Varejao went to work. Andy started rebounding like a man possessed and ignited the Cavaliers to take the first quarter lead. In fact, the Cavaliers would win each of the first 3 quarters behind Varejao and some of the best team defense the team has played all season. Unfortunately, they lost the quarter that matters the most, and the Grizzlies were able to play lights out defense down the stretch and steal a hard fought win from the Cavaliers. There’s so much to be proud of in the way Cleveland played in this game, in particular Varejao who dominated arguably the Western Conference’s best frontcourt. Sure, the Grizzlies missed Mike Conley who sat with the flu, but the Cavaliers still forced one of the best offenses in the NBA to easily their lowest scoring output of the season. But in the end, it’s still a loss. A loss the Cavaliers probably don’t deserve, but a win Memphis definitely deserved. The Cavaliers can learn a lot from the way the Grizzlies competed on defense in the 4th quarter. It’s just a shame to waste a 15 point, 22 rebound night from Anderson Varejao. 1 2 3 4 T CLE 27 20 22 9 78 MEM 24 18 20 22 84 Cleveland Starters Pos Min FG 3Pt FT +/- Off Reb Ast TO Stl BS BA PF Pts D. Anderson Varejao: Cleveland’s “All-Star Guy”

The elections may be long in the rear view, but the lobbying in Cleveland may be reaching new levels. As the Cavaliers dropped yet another nail-biter to one of the NBA’s elite teams, it was Anderson Varejao who continued to keep his bruised and battered team on the positive side of the ledger, pulling down 22 more rebounds, obtaining possession of balls which he had no business...

NBA Report: Gibson, Waiters to have MRIs

Daniel Gibson was not 0n the Cavaliers bench or behind it in street clothes. This was odd considering he was not on any injury report given by the Cavaliers pregame, and was expected to play. Following the first quarter, the Cavs announced he was a “late scratch” with his elbow injury. Following the game, the Cavaliers announced that Daniel Gibson and rookie Dion Waiters will...

Schedule stinks, but Cavs must find a way

CLEVELAND -- The Cavaliers are entering dangerous territory, the kind that can cause a team to lose a grip on the buying public way too soon in a season. That's not a criticism. It's a harsh reality. The latest example came Tuesday, a 91-78 embarrassment against a Phoenix team that isn't very good. Did we mention the game was at home? Did we mention the Cavs blew...

The Cavs only scored 9 points in the 4th quarter of the game. You see the Grizzlies remembered...

Cleveland Cavaliers End Latest Road Trip in Memphis Tonight

Memphis Coach Hollins Says Grizzlies “Are Playing Together”

Just a few years ago; the Memphis Grizzlies were charter members of the Association’s “Cellar-Dwellers” and the club’s General Manager Chris Quinn, seemed to be destined to wind up on the NBA scrap-heap. Quinn, fell far short of success holding the same position with the Boston Celtics and things did not seem to be headed in the right direction for the team he was now the...

Jamison: I love Cleveland, but Los Angeles is unbelievable

I love Mike (Brown) to death and don’t know what the situation would’ve presented itself had he stayed but for me I’m one of those guys where first of all just give me the opportunity to be on the court for an extended period of time and eventually I will find a way to contribute but it was difficult for me to come in the game and my only three or four shots were threes and...

Grizzlies rally to top hustling Cavs

MEMPHIS -- If a team wants to go deep in the NBA playoffs, it's got to win games even when it appears totally uninspired, at least early in a contest.
