Found January 29, 2013 on Waiting For Next Year:
The Cavaliers came into this game on their first winning streak of the season and things were starting to look up. To make matters even more optimistic for Cleveland, we found out prior to the game that not only would Kyrie Irving (who missed shootaround due to illness) play, but Andrew Bogut, Steph Curry, and Harrison Barnes would all miss this game. That was about the last good news of the night. The Warriors jumped out to a quick 13-4 lead and they would never look back. The Cavaliers would close the deficit in the first half, but the Warriors pulled away in the 2nd half and never let the Cavaliers really get within striking range. The Warriors backcourt duo of Klay Thomspon and Jarrett Jack simply could not be stopped in this one. Thompson lead all scorers with 32 points and Jack added 26 of his own. Down low David Lee did whatever he pleased as well putting up 20 points and 12 rebounds. This was an all around defensive letdown for the Cavaliers. Kyrie’s energy looked low as he was clearly struggling. He finished with 14 points on 5-17 shooting from the floor. Tristan Thompson did have another double double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, Dion Waiters also chipped in 18 points, and Tyler Zeller scored 16 points. There’s not a lot to read into a game like this. Kyrie’s illness was one thing, but the overall effort (particularly on defense) was quite disappointing for a team that appeared to be finding its groove. The Cavaliers have until Friday now to get healthy and recharge their intensity.   1 2 3 4 T GS 23 32 29 24 108 CLE 23 21 24 27 95   Golden State Starters Pos Min FG 3Pt FT +/- Off Reb Ast TO Stl BS BA PF Pts Klay Thompson G 43:05 13-24 6-8 0-0 +17 0 7 2 3 0 3 1 2 32 Jarrett Jack G 35:55 11-18 3-4 1-2 +10 0 1 12 4 1 1 0 0 26 Andris Biedrins C 11:24 1-1 0-0 0-0 +12 2 5 0 0 1 2 0 3 2 David Lee F 39:23 8-12 0-0 4-4 +20 2 13 8 1 2 0 1 3 20 Richard Jefferson F 20:39 1-4 0-0 1-2 +1 0 1 0 1 1 0 1 1 3 Bench Min FG 3Pt FT +/- Off Reb Ast TO Stl BS BA PF Pts Totals 45-84 11-16 7-10 7 39 31 14 8 9 4 23 108 Percentages .536 .688 .700 Team Rebounds: 11 Kent Bazemore 30:15 4-8 1-1 0-0 +10 0 2 3 2 2 0 0 4 9 Draymond Green 24:30 3-7 1-3 0-0 -9 1 7 2 2 1 0 0 5 7 Festus Ezeli 22:44 2-4 0-0 1-2 +1 2 3 0 0 0 3 0 4 5 Charles Jenkins 12:05 2-6 0-0 0-0 +3 0 0 4 1 0 0 1 1 4 Harrison Barnes DNP – Coach’s Decision Andrew Bogut DNP – Coach’s Decision Stephen Curry DNP – Coach’s Decision Carl Landry DNP – Coach’s Decision Jeremy Tyler DNP – Coach’s Decision Cleveland Starters Pos Min FG 3Pt FT +/- Off Reb Ast TO Stl BS BA PF Pts Kyrie Irving G 36:22 5-17 1-3 3-5 -3 0 3 4 1 3 0 4 2 14 Dion Waiters G 27:43 6-13 1-3 5-8 -22 0 1 7 2 1 1 0 0 18 Tyler Zeller C 36:05 6-9 0-0 4-4 -14 2 3 5 1 0 1 0 1 16 Tristan Thompson F 36:33 8-14 0-0 2-2 -18 5 11 1 0 2 1 2 5 18 Alonzo Gee F 28:14 0-5 0-2 0-0 -7 1 4 2 3 1 0 1 1 0 Bench Min FG 3Pt FT +/- Off Reb Ast TO Stl BS BA PF Pts Totals 36-84 4-18 19-25 12 36 27 11 8 4 9 13 95 Percentages .429 .222 .760 Team Rebounds: 10 Shaun Livingston 22:24 3-5 0-0 1-2 -6 1 2 5 2 0 1 0 2 7 Marreese Speights 20:44 4-8 0-0 4-4 +6 0 5 1 1 0 0 1 0 12 C.J. Does Kyrie Irving have a second act up his sleeve?

What’s next for Kyrie Irving? After Monday put a cap on what was undoubtedly the best week to date in the 20-year old’s still-young career, he and those around him – friends, family, teammates, coaches and fans – are left to wonder what the Cavaliers point guard has in store, serving as an encore to one of the best show’s Cleveland has witnessed in recent years. Through...

Cleveland’s Kyrie Irving a “future MVP?”

In ESPN’s latest 5-on-5, several scribes tackle the point guard position. Given his recent accolades and award-winning week, it comes as little surprise that Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving is considered to be the consensus player with the most potential. Kevin Arnovitz: It’s safe to say Kyrie Irving has graduated from potential status. That being the case, Damian Lillard...

Kyrie nabs another Eastern honor

CLEVELAND -- Things seem to be coming together for the young Cavaliers and the rest of the NBA is taking notice. On Monday, Cavs point guard Kyrie Irving was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week. Its a well-deserved honor, as Irving averaged a league-high 35.7 points in three games (all victories), and hit the final shot in Saturdays one-point win at Toronto. Irvings shot...

Irving headlines roster for Rising Stars Challenge

Kyrie Irving, the MVP of last year's Rising Stars Challenge, will return to the game featuring top rookies and second-year players. The Cleveland All-Star was one of 18 players chosen Wednesday for the Feb. 15 game in Houston. Charles Barkley and Shaquille O'Neal will again serve as general managers and draft teams during TNT's pregame show Feb. 7. Rookie stars Damian...

Kyrie Irving deserves to be an All-Star starter

The Rajon Rondo ACL injury was a major disappointment on Sunday.  The NBA—especially its postseason—is a markedly better product with Rondo involved. When healthy, his unique skill-set has the ability to change the outcome of not only playoff games but also an entire series on a moment's notice. Something we are certainly well aware of as Cavaliers' fans. ...

The 13-33 Cleveland Cavaliers will have plenty of representation on All-Star weekend as four members of the Wine and Gold will be part of the 2013 Rising Stars challenge. Reigning Rising Stars MVP Kyrie Irving will be joined by Tristan Thompson, Dion Waiters and Tyler Zeller as the league’s best freshmen and sophomores square off. Irving, already selected by the Eastern Conference...

Cavaliers to face short-handed Warriors squad

Just when the Golden State Warriors were finally able to put the lineup they wanted on the floor, they'll likely be short-handed again. Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers will look to ride Kyrie Irving's hot streak to their first four-game winning streak since LeBron James left when they host the Warriors on Tuesday night. Golden State (27-17) got Andrew Bogut back for Monday...

Kyrie as the franchise guy

Youre starting an NBA franchise from scratch and you own the third pick. Who do you take? Heat start LeBron James has been chosen No. 1. That makes sense. Hes a three-time league MVP and the games best player. Thunder forward Kevin Durant goes second. Hes the second-best player, a scoring machine and still only 24 years old. So, who do you take? Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving,...

Send it to our tips email at tips@waitingfornextyear.com. “About a month ago, I was chatting with two NBA officials at a Knicks game a few days after Irving had come to New York and put up 41 points in a ludicrous near-comeback...

Cavs let great arrangement go to waste

CLEVELAND -- Everything was set up for a great night. The Cavaliers had won three straight. Golden State was wounded, a team of basketball zombies that was missing three starters with injuries. Plus, the Warriors played the night before, winning at Toronto. Then they had to fly to Cleveland. Honestly, folks, you cant ask for a better situation. Those reasons and more are why the...

NBA Rumors: Cavs and Heat leaders to sign Greg Oden

The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Miami Heat have reportedly emerged as the leaders to land former first-overall pick Greg Oden. Jeff Goodman of CBS Sports says that the seven-foot product out of Ohio State, who has suffered multiple knee injuries since being drafted in 2007, is leaning toward either playing in Miami for the minimum or in Cleveland where he would be able to net considerably...

Weekend Recap, Featuring… Everything.

Cavaliers 99, Raptors 98 ***It wasn’t looking good for the Cavs with less than 50 seconds to go.  Kyrie Irving had turned the ball over, missed a layup, and displayed his frustration by putting his hands on his knees and watching as Dion Waiters bricked a long jumper.  Meanwhile, the Raptors exploited a defensive breakdown to take a two-point lead on an Amir Johnson dunk.  Following...
