Clinging to the Western Conference's final playoff spot, the Houston Rockets know they must capitalize on prime opportunities to pick up victories.
Houston seeks a sixth straight home win while avoiding a second consecutive loss to a sub-.500 opponent as it hosts the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night.
The Rockets (31-27) lead the ninth-place Los Angeles Lakers by three games and are in the midst of a five-game stretch of playing teams with losing records.
It didn't get off to a good start, though, after a 105-103 at Washington on Saturday. Houston hit 19 of 46 3-point attempts - the most in the NBA this season - but allowed at least 103 points for the eighth time in nine games.
"We shoot a lot of 3s as a team, but I think we got a little 3 happy," coach Kevin McHale said. "We didn't get enough penetration and enough ball movement."
The Rockets had won three of their previous four -- all against teams with winning records -- but also had lost to Sacramento on Feb. 10 prior to that stretch.
James Harden scored 27 points and Chandler Parsons netted 24 on Saturday, but Harden knows they missed another solid chance to add to their win total.
After facing the Bucks, the Rockets will play at Orlando on Friday before back-to-back games with Dallas.
"We let two games slip away," Harden told the team's official website of the Sacramento and Washington defeats. "We're not allowed to do that at this point in the season. We (play) a lot of teams under .500 so we've got to do a good job on really focusing in on what we have to do in order to win those games."
New acquisitions Thomas Robinson and Francisco Garcia could make their debuts Wednesday, though how much they'll play - if at all - isn't clear. McHale said they will have to work for spots in the rotation.
"I assume if you would rebound, run and defend, coach might find a spot for you," McHale said.
Harden scored 29 points and Carlos Delfino netted 22 while hitting 6 of 7 3-pointers off the bench in a 115-101 win at Milwaukee on Jan. 4, and this time around they'll face a Bucks team coming off a 95-90 win at Dallas on Tuesday.
Monta Ellis scored a game-high 22 points and Larry Sanders added 13 and 13 rebounds for Milwaukee (27-28), which had dropped three straight and nine of its previous 11.
"We can put that behind us now and build off of that," Ellis said.
Despite this recent rough patch, the Bucks still have a five-game advantage over Toronto and Philadelphia for the final playoff spot in the East.
J.J. Redick scored 14 points and played the final minutes instead of starter Brandon Jennings, who shot only 3 of 11 and scored eight points.
"I just felt like that group was playing well together," coach Jim Boylan said.
The Bucks were a bit thin on the bench after Samuel Dalembert was suspended for an unspecified team violation. Boylan didn't specify if Dalembert will be in uniform Wednesday.
"Everybody on the team or involved with the team - players, coaches, staff - they have certain responsibilities to the team," Boylan said. "When those responsibilities aren't met, there are consequences."
Milwaukee's 105-99 win over the Rockets on Jan. 25, 2012, ended an 11-game losing streak in Houston.

The Milwaukee Bucks have suspended center Samuel Dalembert for one game without pay due to a violation of team policy, general manager John Hammond announced Tuesday.
Dalembert, 31, will serve his suspension Tuesday night when the Bucks play in Dallas.
After rejoining the Bucks rotation in late January, Dalembert has averaged 9.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game in Milwaukee...
The Milwaukee Bucks were tired of losing close games. They just needed somebody to step up and slam the door.
Tuesday night in Dallas, Monta Ellis did just that. Playing point guard down the stretch, Ellis put together one of his best performances of the season on both ends of the court.
Scoring 11 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter, Ellis added nine assists and six steals...
James Harden has become almost as well known for his beard as he is for is All-Star play for the Houston Rockets.
Harden had a trimmed beard during his two seasons in college at Arizona State from 2007-2009, and then he began growing it out while he was with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The beard has been featured in fruit displays and on buildings. It’s gotten so out of hand that...
Monta Ellis just ran.
He didn't even see the fortuitous bounce that sunk his buzzer beating 3-pointer to give the Bucks a 110-107 victory in Houston on Wednesday night.
With Brandon Jennings stuck near the sideline and cut off by Jeremy Lin, Ellis popped up to bail him out. Catching the ball while twisting around and elevating over the 6-foot-9 Chandler Parsons, Ellis sunk...
Brandon Jennings didn’t deny the report that speculated he hopes to land in Dallas this summer when he will be a restricted free agent. Instead, Jennings raved about the Mavs and their winning philosophy prior to his team’s matchup with the aformentioned later that night.
According to ESPN Dallas:
“Who wouldn’t want to play in an environment like this every night?” Jennings...
Monta Ellis had a night for the ages by going for 27 points, 13 assists, and a nifty game-winner. Check out how Monta threw up a prayer and somehow it was answered to lead the Bucks to a 110-107 win over the Houston Rockets. Ellis received the ball with only a couple seconds left on the clock with his back to the rim and he somehow did a 180 degree spin and made the long three...
NBA star Brandon Jennings recently went to Instagram where he posed for a photo wearing a $100 Pyrex Basic tee, a buck for a basic tee ! Hey this brand Pyrex has kind of came out of nowhere, as its edgy street style is currently being embraced by the hip hop community with the likes of rappers Kanye West, & Jay-Z rocking their gear. The actual name of the brand is ‘Pyrex Vision’...
Troy Kinunen's heart rate spiked as the minutes ticked away on Saturday. He stared at his phone and dialed from Milwaukee to New York City repeatedly, test calls to make sure the voice on the other end of the auction would answer when it mattered most.
For a Milwaukee sports memorabilia collector chasing one of the biggest scores in the city's sports history, this moment...
The Milwaukee Bucks and the Houston Rockets squared off in a tied game with just seconds remaining on Wednesday night, and of course, it would be Monta Ellis who gets off a shot on one foot as time expired to seal the game for the Bucks. Tweet In a battle of teams who currently hold the eighth spot in their respective conferences, the Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Houston Rockets 110-107 Wednesday thanks to one of the craziest game-winning shots you’ll see this season. It wasn’t the best looking end-of-game possession you’re going to see, but the two guys you figured [...]
As stated earlier tonight, buzzer beaters are the pinnacle of moments for a basketball game and for broadcasters. This impressive and awkward turn around game winning 3-pointer by Monta Ellis to put the Milwaukee Bucks over the Houston Rockets was excellent. Not so excellent, the possibly confused and uninterested call from the booth. Like I said, take a lesson from the call guys...
