Byron Scott Picked Baron Davis Over Chris Paul, Kyrie Irving, And Jason Kidd As The Most Talented Point Guard He Coached

Baron Davis is a former star point guard that played for a number of teams, including the Golden State Warriors and the New Orleans Hornets. He made the All-Star team twice and was selected to the 2003-04 All-NBA Third Team.

Among fans, Baron Davis is most well-known for being a member of the 2006-07 "We Believe" Warriors. The team most notably upset the No. 1 seeded Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the 2007 playoffs. Baron Davis was the undisputed best player and leader of that team, and many Warriors fans remember him in a fond light. Davis has previously claimed that the "We Believe" team could have beaten the Kevin Durant Warriors, and it is clear that he was confident in that team and what they could do on the basketball court.

Byron Scott Says Baron Davis Is The Most Talented Point Guard He's Coached

There is no doubt that Baron Davis was an elite guard in his era. At his peak, he was able to compete with the best players of his time. Baron Davis knew how to get his teammates involved at a high level and was also capable of scoring as well. He had career averages of 16.1 PPG, 3.8 RPG, and 7.2 APG.

Byron Scott coached Baron Davis during the 2004-05 season, and it seems as though he holds the point guard in high regard. Scott noted that he had coached elite point guards such as Chris Paul, Kyrie Irving, and Jason Kidd during his time but still considers Baron Davis the "most talented point guard" that he's coached in his career. “I've said this multiple times. I’ve coached some great point guards in my day. Jason Kidd, Chris Paul, Kyrie Irving. But, I tell people this a lot. [Baron Davis] was the most talented point guard I’ve ever coached.”

Obviously, this is a bold take from Byron Scott, as it is hard to see Baron Davis being more talented than three Hall of Fame point guards. However, Davis was clearly a fantastic player that had a lot of skill and ability.

There is no doubt that Baron Davis is underrated by a lot of fans currently. Though he did not end his career with many accolades, he was clearly an elite performer who showed up in the biggest moments. Hopefully, we end up seeing Baron Davis get more recognition in the future, and it is good to see him get some praise from his former coach.
