So we try and have fun here on Celtics Life, but the NBA news of the past few months has been anything, but fun. Today could also be a nuclear day, where the best shot for a season blows up. With that said, might as well make some attempt to brighten things up. I figured we could caption some of the player reps in the above picture taken yesterday. The interesting thing about the players on the negotiating team and all the 30 team reps as a whole is they're basically a bunch of no names (with the exception of Chris Paul). You don't get Melo or Amar'e from the Knicks, you get Roger Mason Jr (who most likely won't be on the Knicks this season and might not even be in the league). No Duncan, Manu, or Parker from the Spurs. There's Matt Bonner instead. Etan Thomas, Maurice Evans, Theo Ratliff? Yeah they are all player reps, but do you even know what teams they played for last season. Did you even know they all were still playing? Ok on to the captions. Feel free ...

Billy Hunter endorses Paul Pierce, decertification push; players gather enough petition signatures to force vote

Paul Pierce indeed led the NBA players’ push for decertification, but he did it with the consent of players union chief Billy Hunter.Despite being the Celtics’ player representative, Pierce was the only team rep not present at the mandatory union meeting yesterday. ESPN cited sources who said Pierce did not miss the meeting as a boycott.Pierce’s decertification...

Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce playing pickup basketball with Ricky Rubio

If the NBA lockout did not exist, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett would be running lanes alongside Rajon Rondo, and Ricky Rubio would be tossing no-look alley-oops to Derrick Williams on a nightly basis. Instead, in this parallel universe defined by BRI splits and “the system,” Rubio has spent his extended offseason playing pickup basketball with Garnett and Pierce.Six...

Tommy Heinsohn Recounts Larry Bird-Magic Johnson Saga, Considers Celtics-Lakers Rivalry to Still Be Among the Best

Former Boston Celtics player and coach Tommy Heinsohn was among those in attendance at West End Johnnie's in Boston on Tuesday night to give his perspective on the historic rivalry between NBA legends Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, and to discuss the upcoming Broadway play Magic Bird. Heinsohn was also kind enough to take a few minutes to speak with NESN.com's Ricky Doyle...

Rondo says elbow is doing well. We’d like to see it in games.

Rajon Rondo is riding out the lockout in Kentucky, taking classes toward his degree and staying in shape. We’re interested because the last time we really saw Rondo his elbow was bending in a way elbows just should not bend. He played through it in the playoffs, but Rondo wasn’t right. He tells the Boston…

Boston Celtics Kevin Garnett Still Has Soft Spot For The Wolves: Trains With Rubio

I know the weather won’t be like that when I go back,” Rubio said. “I love the place. The people are so nice. I talk with KG, too, and he talked to me great things about Minnesota. He said the crowd cheers very hard for the team. They love the sport. We have to fight to give them what they are waiting for us to do, to win. NBA lockout negotiations fragile, but progress made

The NBA negotiations have been like Paul Pierce’s favorite shot — two dribbles forward, one giant leap back — except the negotiations have been hanging in the air for quite a bit longer than Pierce.Reporters briefed by sources on Wednesday’s negotiations could all agree: progress was made. But whether that progress is enough to stem the prevalent tide of instability...

The Great Debate Series-Greatest Team of All-Time

As we continue our seven week series detailing some of the games greatest debates, we encounter one of the more highly debated barbershop topics; the greatest NBA team of all time. Countless teams have tossed their hats in the ring, many more felt they should have been considered among the greats but truly do not belong, but in the end we are left with five teams with very little...

Green Tidbits from Jerry West's New Book

One of the true legends of the NBA, Jerry West, recently released a new book entitled: My Charmed, Tormented Life and it's nothing short of fantastic.  There are all sorts of fascinating revelations in it, many of which have been reviewed by several blogs and sites already.  As with other books, I'll provide some of the Celtics-related items from it.  I recommend reading...

RIP, Ed Macauley

I planned to begin this post like this: “When Ed Macauley’s son became ill in 1956, it contributed to the Celtics’ acquisition of Bill Russell.”Then, I read a CelticsBlog post by Roy Hobbs (who is either The Natural or this guy, preferably the former), who adamantly believes we need to remember Macauley for more than his departure from Boston, which —...

Hall of Famer 'Easy Ed' Macauley dies at 83

Ed Macauley, one of the NBA's first big stars who won a championship with the St. Louis Hawks and was traded by the Boston Celtics for Bill Russell, has died. He was 83.

Remembering Ed Macauley

Ed Macauley's name will not show up on any version of NBA2K12. The Hall of Famer was not one of the all-time greats, although still a very good player. His role in NBA history has more to do with the trade Boston made sending him to St. Louis (along with the Ice Capades in a strange trading twist) in exchange for the number two overall pick. That number two pick was Bill Russell...
