With the 2013-14 NBA season just hours away, New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony made two fascinating revelations. First, he told the world that he'd get to work as a free-agent recruiter next summer. Second, he admitted that he still has a rolodex. A rolodex, 'Melo? Really? Somebody on the Knicks staff needs to inform the league's leading scorer about the contact lists that exist in every smart phone. It's great that Anthony is willing to make sales pitches to other potential free agents; he'll have to do that in order to build a next-generation contender in New York. But his outdated methodology is cause for concern. Will he communicate with LeBron James or Dwyane Wade via carrier pigeon? Maybe he'll fire off a telegram to Chris Bosh or send up a smoke signal to Pau Gasol. If he's still using a rolodex to keep his acquaintances in order, those things are all still in play. The Knicks probably don't care how Anthony reaches out, though; they're just glad that his latest comments imply an interest in re-signing with his current team. In an earlier release that surprised nobody, 'Melo made it clear that he was intent on testing out free agency.
