Cavaliers Have Not Made Any Assurances To Marcus Morris About His Place On Roster Beyond 10-Day Deal
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

According to NBA reporter Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com, the Cleveland Cavaliers have not made any assurances to Marcus Morris about his place on the roster beyond his 10-day deal.

Fedor thinks the Cavaliers may sign Morris to a second 10-day contract or a standard deal after his current 10-day expires since five players on the roster are hurt.

“Sources tell cleveland.com that the Cavs have not made any assurances to Morris about his place on the roster beyond this 10-day deal or his role in the meantime,” Fedor wrote. “Given the lengthy injury list, it’s possible he will remain in Cleveland for a second 10-day or even receive a standard contract, providing depth and insurance going into the playoffs — if the fit is right.”

The Philadelphia 76ers traded Morris to the San Antonio Spurs as part of the three-team deal that sent Buddy Hield from the Indiana Pacers to the Sixers and Doug McDermott from the Spurs to the Pacers. San Antonio was always expected to part ways with Morris since the franchise is in rebuild mode.

Morris is averaging 6.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.7 assists this season while shooting 43.9% from the field, 40.0% from beyond the arc and 86.1% from the free-throw line. He appeared in 37 games with the Sixers before getting traded.

“I’m trying to be here for the run and I’m just excited to help the team in any way I can,” Morris said. “Just coming in and being a veteran. Just be myself. Be a natural leader and be there for the guys and help them get ready for this run. I’ve been in the playoffs a bunch of times in my career and there are a lot of young guys here, so help them prepare and also perform on the court.”

A Philadelphia native, Morris has career NBA averages of 12.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists with the Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers and Sixers.
