CLEVELAND (AP) -- Cavaliers center Anderson Varejao is out for Cleveland's game against Sacramento because of a bruised right knee. Varejao, the NBA's leading rebounder, will miss his seventh straight game. He hasn't played since Dec. 18 when he injured the knee against Toronto. Varejao returned to practice in a limited role Monday, but hasn't gone through contact drills. He said last week that he still felt pain when he tried to bend or push off on the knee and he thought the injury needed another week to heal. Varejao is averaging 14.4 rebounds and 14.1 points. Cavaliers guard Daniel Gibson will miss his second straight game because of a concussion.

Cavaliers anxiously awaiting Varejao's return

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Sacramento Kings are each anxiously awaiting the return of a key player. Sacramento has done a better job of weathering the storm in the meantime. Cleveland, which has lost eight of 10, hopes a Wednesday night home game against Sacramento - one of the NBA's worst road teams - will help stop its latest slide. The Cavaliers own the league's second...

Waiters’ move to reserve is long overdue, but in a good way

The Cleveland Cavaliers may finally have their James Harden. If we want to use a more modern analogy, the Wine and Gold may have their very own Jamal Crawford, albeit a rookie who still has plenty of room to grow. In a surprise move prior to Wednesday night’s contest against the Sacramento Kings, Cavs head coach Byron Scott made a decision that some were clamoring for prior to...

Catching up with Shaun Livingston after his Cavaliers' debut

In an otherwise frustrating loss to a bad team on Wednesday night, Shaun Livingston made his Cleveland Cavaliers debut. He came off the Cavs' bench to play just under 13 minutes, finishing with two points, two rebounds, one assist and a plus/minus of +4 on the night. After the game I caught up with Livingston. I've talked with Shaun...

Andy Varejao, Daniel Gibson out for tonight

Byron Scott ruled out Cavaliers’ center Andy Varejao for tonight’s game against the Sacramento Kings, along with guard Daniel Gibson. Varejao has been out with a bruised knee since December 18th. He has missed the past six games. Gibson is still out, having not passed the league’s concussion protocol.

Box Score: Kings 97, Cavaliers 94

This game brought some big changes for the Cavaliers. First of all, Tristan Thompson was playing without his mask. This game also saw Shaun Livingston make his Wine and Gold debut. But the big change was Coach Scott’s decision to start CJ Miles and bring Dion Waiters off the bench. In the first half, the move paid off as CJ Miles had a big first quarter and then Dion Waiters followed...

Cavaliers assign Leuer to D-League

Cleveland Cavaliers forward Jon Leuer has been assigned to the Canton Charge of the D-League, the Cavaliers announced Thursday. Leuer has average 3.2 points and 2.0 rebounds in five NBA games. In six previous games with the Charge, he has averaged 20.3 points and 12.3 rebounds a game.

Cavs make change, but stay the same

CLEVELAND -- A week ago, Byron Scott said he is not out of ideas, and the man offered evidence Wednesday by changing his lineup. The result: Another home loss for Scott and the Cavaliers. This one came courtesy of the Sacramento Kings, 97-94, in front of a crowd that was barely larger than 12,000 strong. The Cavs could use all their early-season road games as an excuse for their...

Sources: Wolves & Cavs Have Had Discussions About Varejao

One team official scoffed at the notion that center Nikola Pekovic, who is a restricted free agent this summer, could command $12 million/year on the open market. If Pekovic doesn’t get $12 million a year, the hunch is he’ll come close. That makes me wonder, if Kahn can find the right replacement, whether he’ll pull the trigger. That could be Cleveland’s Anderson Varejao...

NBA Rookie Rankings: Anthony Davis not living up to the hype

With the Cavaliers having two rookies playing prominent minutes, WFNY thought it would beneficial to see how the fresh meat around the league is faring in comparison with the Cavalier rookies. Each week, we’ll have NBA rookie power rankings where we’ll rack and stack the freshman class of the NBA. The rankings will be weighted with the most recent games carrying the most importance...

Kings 97, Cavaliers 94

CLEVELAND -- The Sacramento Kings had won just one road game this season. They'd lost 10 of their last 11 games against the Cleveland Cavaliers, including a 1-5 mark at Quicken Loans Arena. Neither of those streaks prevented the Kings from prevailing on Wednesday night over the Cavs, 97-94, at Quicken Loans Arena. Center DeMarcus Cousins powered in 18 points and a game-high...
