Beyond The Buzzer:
Cleveland Cavaliers’ coach Byron Scott got in on the rookie hazing fun. Usually, it’s the veteran players who give the orders and seek out to torment and embarrass the young bucks, but not in this case. Scott personally delivered baby dolls and strollers to Tyler Zeller, Dion Waiters and Kevin Jones prior to Wednesday night’s loss to the Bulls. On being a faux dad, Jones said: “Apparently you’ve got to carry milk and Pampers in this little pink bag. You’ve got to make sure it’s always full with that (stuff) and bring it in and out of the arena with you, and you get in trouble if you don’t have it with you.”

Cavaliers head coach Byron Scott forced the team's three rookies to carry around dolls in strollers before Wednesday's game against the Bulls.
In last week’s Cavaliers Film Room, we broke down three end-game scenarios where the Cavaliers failed to execute in close losses. This week, we’ll focus on the team’s rookie shooting guard, Dion Waiters. We’ve seen some brilliant performances from Dion even in the absence of his playmaking partner in the backcourt, Kyrie Irving. On the other hand, there have been some incredibly...
Rookie hazing isn’t uncommon in professional sports. Nevertheless, it’s pretty rare that you hear of a head coach leading the charge when it comes to hazing rookies. But that’s exactly what Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Byron Scott is doing.
According to ESPN, Scott is hazing his rookies Dion Waiters, Tyler Zeller and Kevin Jones by making them carry around baby dolls and...
Is it better to play poorly and win or to play well and lose? The Cleveland Cavaliers (4-14, 13th in the East) have lost quite a few games I’m not sure they deserved to lose this season. The Cavaliers are going through something of an identity crisis at the moment. Or they are a pretty good bad team, or a pretty bad good team?
One of the games they most certainly deserved to lose...
Cavaliers rookie guard Dion Waiters is out for Wednesday night's game against the Chicago Bulls because of a sprained left ankle.
Waiters, taken with the No. 4 pick in this year's draft, was injured in Saturday's double-overtime loss to Portland. He didn't play in Monday's game against Detroit and it's uncertain when he will return. Waiters is averaging 15...
Anderson Varejao leads the NBA in rebounding at 15.4 per game. Hes recorded 10 straight double-doubles. Hes recorded 10 straight games of at least 15 rebounds.
More precisely, in the previous 10 games, Varejao is averaging 17.4 rebounds per game. In the Cavs four wins, hes at 18.8 rpg.
On top of that, Varejao is the Cavs top scorer (15.0 ppg) and arguably their best...
With the Cavaliers having two rookies playing prominent minutes, WFNY thought it would beneficial to see how the fresh meat around the league is faring in comparison with the Cavalier rookies. Each week, we’ll have NBA rookie power rankings where we’ll rack and stack the freshman class of the NBA. The rankings will be weighted with the most recent games carrying the most importance...
Anderson Varejao is averaging 15.2 points and 15.4 rebounds per game heading into tonight's matchup with the Chicago Bulls. He's also shooting 52.2 percent from the floor overall and 77.7 percent from the free throw line.
To that point, Dave Wooley (@dwooley81) emailed me the following statistic.
The players who have averaged at least 15 points and...
The Cavaliers have assigned forward Jon Leuer to the Canton Charge, the Cavs D-League affiliate.
Leuer is a 6-foot-10 forward who was signed by the Cavs prior to the season. He was waived by Houston in July.
Leuer has played in five games with the Cavs, compiling averages of 3.2 points and 2.0 rebounds.
The Cavs (4-15) are at Minnesota on Friday, before returning to Quicken Loans...
Byron Scott is quite the jokester lately, during his pre-game press conference, a reporters cell phone rang and Scott answered it and had a fun conversation with “Mike” on the other end. Baby dolls for his rookies and press room phone calls…all in a days work.

Tonight the Cleveland Cavaliers (4-15, 13th in the East) travel to Minnesota to take on the Timberwolves (8-9, 11th in the West). Once again this is another battle of two teams without their starting PGs. This is getting to be a theme for this season with the Cavaliers recently playing Memphis without Mike Conley and Chicago without Derrick Rose. Tonight...
The Cleveland Cavaliers have recalled forward Kevin Jones from the Canton Charge.
Jones has appeared in five games for the Charge this season, averaging 23.6 points (third in the league), 12.6 rebounds (third in the league) and 1.4 steals in 41.0 minutes (fourth in the league). He has four double-doubles on the season.
An undrafted rookie out of West Virginia, Jones was signed to...
Kevin Jones dominated the D-League this season.
In five games he averaged 23.6 points and 12.6 rebounds on 53 percent shooting.
During the Cavaliers 91-73 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday, he earned his way onto the NBA floor for the first time.
It's possible that Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters helped out by keeping a watchful eye on the baby he's been...
“To be honest I do not think you can make up for it.” — Byron Scott, 12/3/12
It wasn’t all that long ago when a Cavaliers-Pistons match-up was must-watch television. If you need proof, just ask Tayshaun Prince, Jason Maxiell, Anderson Varejao or Daniel Gibson — the only four men to play in the 2007 Eastern Conference Finals who happen to still be playing for their respective...
