CLEVELAND (AP) -- Cavaliers guard Daniel Gibson practiced and believed he was ready to play. He'll have to wait a little longer. Gibson did not travel with the team to Miami as originally planned after he complained about discomfort in his neck after practicing for the first time in 10 days. Gibson will miss his fifth straight game Tuesday with what the team has described as a "soft tissue infection" that he was hospitalized for in Boston last week. He practiced Monday at the team's facility in Independence, Ohio, and said he was looking forward to getting back on the floor with his teammates. But Gibson reported some "discomfort" and the team said in a release Monday night that Gibson did not make the trip to Florida to face the Heat "as a precaution." Gibson had been upbeat after practice. He was hospitalized in Boston for two days last week to undergo tests after his neck swelled and he had trouble chewing. Gibson still isn't sure what exactly is wrong with him. "It's kind of hard to explain," he said. "They did a lot of tests. It was a combination of a lot of different things. A lot of it they were speaking doctor,' so a lot of it I didn't know." The 25-year-old said he may have hurt his neck in a Jan. 27 game against New Jersey. Following that game, Gibson came down with a cold, which may have caused some excessive swelling in his neck. "It got kind of serious because of all the complications with your neck," he said. "There's breathing. There's so much that goes on around that area. That's why it was so serious." Gibson has been with the Cavs since 2006, when they drafted him in the second round. He's one of the team's most popular players, the Cavs' best long-range outside shooter and top perimeter defender. Gibson's injury isn't the only one troubling the Cavs, who have been short-handed for the past week. Starting guard Anthony Parker remains sidelined with a strained lower back and rookie forward Tristan Thompson will miss his fourth straight game with a sprained left ankle. Before learning Gibson would be out again, the team waived rookie guard Mychel Thompson, who had made three consecutive starts. It's possible the Cavs will make another roster move before facing the Heat, the first of four games in five days for Cleveland.

Box Score: Cavaliers 91, Heat 107

It wasn’t near as bad as that score looks. Once again the Cavaliers hung around with the Heat for most of the game, but in the waning moments of this one, the Heat were just too much and pulled away. It gets tiresome lauding moral victories, but still, the Cavaliers used lineups with Hollins/Samuels, Harangody, and Eyenga on the floor together for long stretches of this one...

Cavaliers not great, but hang with Heat

Thoughts from the Cavaliers 107-91 loss to Miami on Tuesday: For probably the first time this season, I felt frustrated with the Cavs. They missed too many shots near the rim, were less-than-stellar from the free-throw line (20-for-30) and just basically didnt seem to value possessions. At least, not like you need to do against perhaps the leagues best team. That said, I need...

Miami Heat Hand Cleveland Cavaliers 4 Period Melt Down 107-91

For three and a half periods the Cleveland Cavaliers were able to hang in with the Miami Heat. Then the melt down came. The Cavaliers have been a team this season that pours it on in the fourth, not tonight. The Heat was able to dominate the fourth and they hand Cleveland a 16 point defeat. Four Cavalier players were in double figures, it still wasn’t enough to make things close...

Shooter's Touch

Daniel Gibson has almost picture-perfect shooting form -- the kind that coaches teach. But not every member of the Wine and Gold has the ideal shooting motion. Both are successful, proving that there's more than one way to sink a shot.

Q+A: Alonzo Gee

by Rachelle Jean-Louis / @RJL24 If you haven’t noticed, Kyrie Irving’s not the only new Cavalier making waves for Cleveland. Cavs’ newcomer Alonzo Gee is proving to be a great role player—and his coach, Byron Scott, agrees. The 24-year-old from Florida took a pretty interesting route to Cleveland. After playing for the University of Alabama, Zo went undrafted in the 2009...

Cavs simply the best. (Well, better than "all the rest")

The newest NBA Power Rankings are out from ESPN's Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine on Twitter.) The widely perceived to be yearlong doormat Cleveland Cavaliers are definitely gaining a little bit of respect in the NBA. I use both "little bit" and "respect" literally, since they are still flying under the radar, but seems like begrudgingly moving their way into the...
