Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving missed practice after having four wisdom teeth pulled.
Irving, the NBA's rookie of the year last season, had the oral surgery on Wednesday. The Cavs said he will return ''when cleared to do so in relation to his continued recovery process.'' Irving is expected to be back in time to get in some practice time before the Cavaliers open the season at home on Tuesday night against Washington.
The Cavs also announced on Thursday that they had signed former Cleveland State guard D'Aundray Brown. He averaged 10.8 points and 4.5 rebounds last season as a senior for the Vikings. Brown is unlikely to make the Cavs' roster but the club may have him play for its NBA Development League team in Canton. The 24-year-old Brown made 91 career starts in college.

Cavaliers coach Byron Scott says Kyrie Irving's broken hand is completely healed, and the star guard will not be limited during training camp.
Irving broke his right hand in July when he slapped a padded wall in frustration during practice in Las Vegas. Scott expects the NBA's reigning rookie of the year to be better than he was last year.
The coach wants Irving to be a...
Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving, who broke his right hand in July, has been cleared for full participation in Cleveland's first day of training camp on Tuesday. Daniel Gibson phoned home. The long-time guard of the Cleveland Cavaliers picked up his iPhone and dialed a Houston area code where his mother, Cheryl, would be the voice on the other end of the cellular transmission. The two speak often, but the reason for this specific phone call was for Gibson, 26, to tell his mom that he, in his words, had “finally become a man.”
Five questions about the Cavaliers as they begin training camp Tuesday:
1. How will Dion Waiters fit?
Waiters was drafted (No. 4 overall) with the idea that he'll start at shooting guard right away and help replace the loss of Antawn Jamison's 17.2 points per game. Can Waiters do it? That remains to be seen, and we won't really know until a week or two after camp. But...
The Cavaliers meet the press for Mondays media day, and here is what we know:
They plan to be young, exciting and full of surprise.
Whether or not thats enough for the playoffs is anyones guess. But Monday is the starting point, a time when players and coaches brim with confidence and talk a good game. By this time next week (and especially, the end of November), well have a better...
A lot of small-market teams aim to follow the path of Oklahoma City, and the Cleveland Cavaliers may well be on their way.
That is, if a lot of things go right.
Like the Thunder once were (back when they were called the Seattle SuperSonics), the Cavs are extremely babyish. They have the potential to be very exciting. They could even compete for a playoff spot (again, if everything...
With training camp starting tomorrow for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and media day taking place right now, there were a couple last-minute additions to the early 2012-13 roster.
PG Kevin Anderson, a 23-year-old University of Richmond product, was on Friday’s preliminary roster. Anderson was the 2010 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and played professionally in France last season.
In his latest edition of player profiles for the 2012-13 NBA season, ESPN’s resident statnik John Hollinger took on the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Amidst all of the number crunching and prognosticating (a must-read for you number types), Hollinger had the following to say about point guard Kyrie Irving.
I’m still big on the Irving bandwagon. Who wouldn’t be after he ranked fifth...
