Cavs Officially Sign Marcus Morris To 10-Day Deal
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Cavaliers were expected to sign forward Marcus Morris to a 10-day contract and now it’s official.

That’s because the Cavs announced the signing on Monday, just ahead of their road game vs. the Indiana Pacers. Morris’ contract is good through March 28, at which point the Cavs could sign him to another 10-day deal, sign him for the remainder of the season, or allow him to re-enter free agency.

A lot of that will likely have to do with how much Morris contributes — either in games or at practice, or both — over the next 10 days.

If nothing else, Morris is expected to add some toughness and veteran leadership. The Cavs could definitely use the additional depth, given that Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Max Strus are all out.

Morris, 34, plays both forward positions and has a willingness to mix it up. He was waived by the San Antonio Spurs at the end of last month.

If you remember, the Philadelphia 76ers traded Morris to the Spurs as part of the three-team deal that sent Buddy Hield from the Indiana Pacers to the Sixers and Doug McDermott from the Spurs to the Pacers. San Antonio was always expected to part ways with Morris since the franchise is in rebuild mode.

He is averaging 6.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.7 assists this season while shooting 43.9% from the field, 40.0% from beyond the arc and 86.1% from the free-throw line. He appeared in 37 games with the Sixers before getting traded.

A Philadelphia native, Morris has career averages of 12.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists with the Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers and Sixers. He’s represented by Chafie Fields of Wasserman.
