Some observations on Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson’s NBA preseason debut.
- Your Cavalier starting five? Ramon Sessions, Anthony Parker, Alonzo Gee, Antawn Jamison and Anderson Varejao. Sounds about right. I fully expect Byron Scott to go with his veterans, at least early in the season.
- Unsurprisingly, I was much more interested in Cleveland’s second unit. When Irving, Thompson, Christian Eyenga and Samardo Samuels are on the court, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Sure, they make dumb mistakes, but you can see the potential. The first unit (asides from the always hustling Anderson Varejao) just makes me sad.
- This should shock none of you, but this game was u-g-l-y. Poor passes, poor decision making, ugly misses… yup these guys have some rust. A lot of it. The Cavs finished the night with 35% shooting (16% from three!) while Detroit finished a blistering 37% from the floor. Each team finished with 21 turnovers.
- I had no idea Lawrence Frank was the Pistons head coach.
