The Los Angeles Lakers' struggles this season are well-documented.  They have a new team that looks on paper like it should compete with anyone, but injuries and an inability to adjust have left the team on the outside looking in.  For them to make the playoffs at this point, the team would have to go on a magical second-half run.  But will they have to do it without Dwight Howard?David Baumann of ESPN 1500 asked Stan Van Gundy if Howard would be in a Lakers' uniform next year."That's going to be an interesting thing," Van Gundy said. "I think they will keep him for the rest of the year. I think they still think they've got a lot to offer and can re-sign him. So, I think he'll be there for the rest of the year, but I think it's '50-50' or maybe even worse odds for the Lakers that they can retain him at the end of the year and if they realize that, you could see them make a move at the trading deadline."Howard is not 100 percent this season.  He wasn't when the season started, he wasn't as he got used to playing in Los Angeles, and he certainly isn't now as he battled a torn labrum in his shoulder.  Howard's health is a main reason why the superstar center is not performing up to expectations.  But very few on the Lakers' roster are.Los Angeles is 18-26, in 10th place in the Western Conference standings, 16 games back of first place, and 4 1/2 games back of the eighth and final playoff spot.  They only have Howard for this season, so the team needs to work out a trade or an extension, and the trade deadline is fast-approaching.Follow @hoopsinjurynews!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://www.nbainjurynews.com//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs"); var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-34100676-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? Dwight Howard loves Kobe Bryant being confrontational

The Los Angeles Lakers had a team meeting last week where Kobe Bryant reportedly confronted Dwight Howard to ask if the big man did not like playing with him. The team lost its first game after the meeting, but they have won two in a row since then, including a victory over the defending Western Conference champion Thunder on Sunday. Howard must be in a good mood since then, because...

Lakers finally get their act together

LOS ANGELES If the Lakers were on a direct path to negativity, as center Dwight Howard so aptly described it earlier in the day, they took an interesting detour Friday night at Staples Center. They communicated on the court. They shared the ball. They played defense. Oh, and they even figured out how to win a game. It really happened. Everything that has been going wrong, including...

Report: Los Angeles Lakers Not Considering Firing Head Coach Mike D’Antoni

Although the Los Angeles Lakers have a number of issues to tackle the rest of the season, it appears that their head coach will not be one of them. The Lakers are not considering firing Mike D’Antoni, according to the Orange County Register. Signed to a three-year contract, D’Antoni replaced Mike Brown in November and has since led the Lakers to a less-than-impressive 12-20 record...

Caption the Photo: Phil Jackson Having a Good Laugh at Mike D’Antoni’s Expense

It is possible that Phillip was just laughing at Manti Te’o saying he was Far Far Far Far Far from being gay or Dwight Howard saying he was about to dominate. More likely he was chuckling because the Lakers picked Mike D’Antoni over him and are now floundering with the distinct possibility of missing the playoffs.

The debacle known as the Los Angeles Lakers yelled at each other on Wednesday morning

Kobe: "Dwight, you suck."- my imagined exchange the two shared at this moment The Los Angeles Lakers are 17-25 so far this season. That record is good enough (bad enough?) for 12th (!) in the Western Conference, just ahead of the Sacramento Kings and behind the Dallas Mavericks. Yep, the same Lakers that most people picked to either win the...
