Steve Clifford has been hired by the Charlotte Bobcats The Charlotte Bobcats or soon-to-be Hornets, have reached a deal with yet another head coach. After firing Mike Dunlap who went 21-61 in his first and only season with the Bobcats, the team decided to go another direction with up and coming assistant coach, Steve Clifford. The Charlotte brass offered Clifford a 2-year deal with team option for a third that could be worth approximately $6 million. Via Yahoo Sports/ Adrian Wojnarowski: The Charlotte Bobcats have reached an agreement in principle to hire Los Angeles Lakers assistant Steve Clifford as head coach, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. Clifford will sign a two-year deal with a team option for a third that could be worth approximately $6 million, league sources said. Clifford is expected to bring Patrick Ewing with him as one of his top assistant coaches. Ewing and Charlotte owner Michael Jordan are close friends despite Jordan impeding Ewing’s attempts to win an NBA championship during their careers. Clifford has spent time under both Jeff and Stan Van Gundy and spent last season with Mike D’Antoni with the Los Angeles Lakers. He is expected to try to hire Patrick Ewing as one of his top assistant coaches, reuniting Ewing with his close friend, Bobcats owner Michael Jordan. Clifford has had stops in New York, Houston, Orlando and Los Angeles as an NBA assistant coach. Both Jeff and Stan Van Gundy – his former bosses – consider Clifford as strong of a head coaching candidate as Chicago’s Tom Thibodeau, Clifford’s former colleague with the Knicks and Rockets.   The post Charlotte Bobcats reach deal with Steve Clifford appeared first on Pass The Pill - Kings of Hoops.
