Today we review the not so obvious choice: The 1994-1995 Charlotte Hornets. I can’t really ever get past the teal and purple.  I mean do you think the whole franchise ended up crumbling to the New Orleans Hornets because of bad colors.  How can you possibly play good in those uniforms?  How can you buy and wear gear?   I say it was a big reason the franchise did not work out. First the basics:  Record: 50-32, Finished 2nd in NBA Central Division (Schedule and Results) Arena: Charlotte Coliseum ▪ Attendance: 971,618 (1st of 27) They had the best attendance in the entire league, yet just in a few years moved the franchise.  COLOR PEOPLE COLOR! Playoffs: Lost NBA Eastern Conference First Round (3-1) versus Chicago Bulls.   Yeah, Jordan just kicked your ass.  (Jordan did not win titles every year, one Penny and Shaq kicked their ass in round two.)   Anyways… The roster: You will notice they had a lot of sweet guys.   For instance Michael Adams could really score when he was with the Bullets.  Funny that a team used to be the bullets.  And he was 5-10 and 162.   And that’s pretty amazing.  But he is HUGE compared to Mugsy Bogues, who was 5’3 if you don’t remember!  Wow, that was nuts.   It’s like impossible but it happened.  Michael Adams towered over Mugsy. Tony Bennett and Joe Wolf both have the Wisconsin ties. Sweet shooting Dell Curry (Stephon’s dad) Hersey Hawkins, a Jordan-lite. Big Tommy Tolbert. And the Chief Robert Parish in his 10000th NBA season. I didn’t even mention their two NBA superstars.  Larry “Grandmama” Johnson and Alonzo “zo” Mourning.   The NBA and media darlings. 23 Michael Adams PG 5-10 162 January 19, 1963 9 Boston College 25 Tony Bennett PG 6-0 175 June 1, 1969 2 University of Wisconsin-Green Bay 7 James Blackwell PG 6-0 190 February 25, 1968 R Dartmouth College 1 Muggsy Bogues PG 5-3 136 January 9, 1965 7 Wake Forest University 24 Scott Burrell SF 6-7 218 January 12, 1971 1 University of Connecticut 30 Dell Curry SG 6-4 190 June 25, 1964 8 Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University 44 Kenny Gattison PF 6-8 225 May 23, 1964 7 Old Dominion University 4 Darrin Hancock SF 6-7 205 November 3, 1971 R University of Kansas 3 Hersey Hawkins SG 6-3 190 September 29, 1966 6 Bradley University 2 Larry Johnson PF 6-6 250 March 14, 1969 3 University of Nevada, Las Vegas 33 Alonzo Mourning C 6-10 240 February 8, 1970 2 Georgetown University 00 Robert Parish C 7-0 230 August 30, 1953 18 Centenary College of Louisiana 12 Greg Sutton PG 6-2 170 December 3, 1967 1 Oral Roberts University 39 Tom Tolbert PF 6-7 235 October 16, 1965 6 University of Arizona 11 David Wingate SG 6-5 185 December 15, 1963 8 Georgetown University 43 Joe Wolf PF 6-11 230 December 17, 1964 6 University of North Carolina Zo brought the defense intensity from Georgetown every night and averaged 21.8 that season.  LJ, pre back problems, averaged 18.8 with some sweet UNLV moves. It was a super hyped up team going places.  Then they got rid of Zo to the heat for Glen Rice and somehow got Anthony Mason and such (Kendall Gill) and LJ’s back fall apart, Mugsy never grew up and Parish got older.   Tony Bennett and Joe Wolf stayed very white (not that it matters.) In the 1996 draft they drafted Kobe and traded him for Vlade.  Ouch.  Not as bad as the colors, but close. I always hated this team.  Now looking back, I think I only hated the colors… - Roste Beefe
