Media critic Howard Kurtz is apologizing for several errors in a column he wrote about gay basketball player Jason Collins this past week. Kurtz is the host of CNN's ''Reliable Sources.'' He brought two other media critics onto his show Sunday to question him about the story written on The Daily Beast suggesting Collins had hidden a previous engagement to a woman when he came out as gay in a Sports Illustrated story. In fact, Collins had disclosed the engagement. Kurtz says he was not only wrong on the facts, but he also shouldn't have written the story in the first place and was too slow to correct himself. He promised to rebuild trust with viewers and asked them to consider his full career as a media critic.

Carolyn Moos Says Jason Collins Took 8 Years of Her Life So She’s Freezing Her Eggs

No one really wants to put out there that Jason Collins was a jerk for lying to his fiancee and girlfriend of eight years.  No real justification for letting someone believe you are straight, when you are really gay for a decade. Moos understandably is upset because she had planned on having a life and children with Collins, but those plans were derailed, so while Collins is...

Column: Collins significant, but not true pioneer

(Eds: With AP Photos.) By PAUL NEWBERRY AP Sports Writer Jason Collins has been compared to Jackie Robinson. And Neil Armstrong. Courageous? Absolutely. True pioneer? Not exactly. Now that we've had a few days to reflect on what it means for Collins to come out as gay, it's time to recognize what this really was - a significant step, to be sure, but hardly a slam-dunk...

Young gay athletes set tone for NBA coming out

You've probably never heard of Holly Peterson or Jonathan Jean-Pierre. One came out as a lesbian at age 15, when she was playing high school basketball. The other, a college rower, told his teammates last year that he's gay. There was little fanfare for either. There were no headlines as there were this past week when NBA player Jason Collins declared that he is gay, making...
