The Denver Nuggets have one of the deepest rosters in the NBA, so when I look into the remaining pool of free agents there is little to no worth that needs to be pursued. But also when looking at the roster, something needs to change in order for them to become a championship team. They have a lot of talent, but the power of a big name player isn’t behind them. Every team that has won the NBA championship has had a start on their team, from Tim Duncan to Michael Jordan, but without one the Nuggets are going to be stuck in the middle of the league clawing to get out. Today’s NBA revolves around the LeBron James‘ and the Kevin Durant’s, and no such player exists on the Nuggets roster, or in free agency. They are going to need a little bit of help, and it’s not going to come from free agency. There are two scenarios in which the Nuggets can go, and they will both involve trades. It won’t be the blockbuster trade that will bring Carmelo Anthony back to Denver, or that will lure in a player such as Kevin Love, these are just stepping stones that need to happen in order to bring that elusive Larry O’bryant trophy up a mile high. #1: Trade Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, or JaVale McGee for a big name player The Nuggets have tons of money tied up between these three players, as well as Ty Lawson. They have yet to have a full season to play healthy together, but that is not what is going to get them farther than the first round of the playoffs. None of these guys are going to make a franchise deal their best player either, so the Nuggets would have to throw in trade sweeteners like Randy Foye, JJ Hickson, and draft picks. It wont be enough to get Kevin Love to play in a yellow uniform, but there is a high possibility that a player such as Roy Hibbert could end up playing in Denver. Hibbert would really strengthen the defense and add to coach Brian Shaw‘s arsenal of formations and plays. #2 Trade Wilson Chandler, or JaVale McGee to free up cap room The closest thing that the Nuggets have to a star right now is Kenneth Faried, and they need to resign him. This means getting Kenneth Faried the money from somewhere else, because he will be owed alot of money that the Nuggets don’t currently have. The team needs to find a team to unload some of its cap onto in the way of Chandler or McGee. This will cause the team to drop for a year or two as they head into a “rebuilding” phase, but will have the money to sign a star once he becomes available, as well as maintaining one of the best young power forwards in the game. So free agency didn’t work out the best for the Nuggets. This would have been the year to act, but nothing fell their way. A good team is sitting in Denver, just waiting for a star to arrive and take them to a championship. The post Denver Nuggets: Are there any free agents worth pursuing? appeared first on isportsweb.
