With several of the Monte Ellis trades involving small forwards, what does this mean for Dorell Wright? One would assume that if the Warriors traded Ellis for Andre Iguodala, Lamar Odom or Luol Deng that they would take over as the starting small forward. So I would then assume Dorell Wright would be headed to the bench?
I could also see another scenario where if Klay Thompson struggles to pick up the offense or defense that Dorell could be moved to the starting shooting guard position until Klay feels more comfortable. It would give the Warriors a little more size on the court but could Wright actually play the 2? He definitely has the ability to score but he isn’t the best at creating his own shot. If the point guard and small forward surrounding him can create their own shot than I wouldn’t imagine Wright not being able to do that would be as much of an issue. I think defensively Wright would do a decent job at the two. This move might not be such a bad thing to start the next season.
Personally I like the idea of Wright coming off the Warriors bench but I am also not crazy about starting Thompson right away. I would like to see him eased into the line up. Since the only other choice to start would be Reggie Williams I think the Warriors should experiment with Wright at the two till Thompson is ready.
