Will Dwight Howard and Kobe be teammates next season?credit: espn.com
The Dwight Howard saga has been going on for over a year now. Many people thought it would end with the trade that sent him to the Los Angeles Lakers, assuming that he would sign long-term with the Lakers. He has yet to sign an extension, and is set to be a free agent at the end of the season.
Most people probably still believe he will stay in LA, but with the Lakers looking like such a mess, it’s worth speculating otherwise. Considering Dwight’s tendency to change his mind, nothing is certain until the ink is dry on the paper.
Via the LA Times, Dwight Howard knows where he will play next season.
Once he made his decision to leave Orlando, it was going to be the best of times. But instead he finds himself parked in hell.
“Maybe somewhere between heaven and hell,” he says. “Purgatory. But it’s going to get better. I know it.”
Howard will be a free agent at the end of this season. I ask him if he knows now where he will be playing next year, and he says, “I know.”
You can’t help but wonder how much of this is true, and what it really means. Say he is referring to the Lakers here; if he knows he wants to play in LA, why hasn’t he signed an extension yet? You have to believe that LA would sign him in a heartbeat once they got the indication that he is willing.
For all we know, he could just be playing a game with us. And clearly, it’s working.

Mavericks Rumors: Dallas May Have a Shot at Dwight Howard, But it Would Take Work
The Dallas Mavericks are in a better position than the Los Angeles Lakers as it stands now. Not many people would have predicted that when the season began. The team heralded to be the toughest competition this season — the Los Angeles Lakers — are now in a 9-13 whole after they lost another game to the Cleveland Cavaliers who, by the way, have won 5 games. Lakers’ Loss to Knicks Creates More Funny Faces By Mike D’Antoni to Add to His Collection of Wacky Faces (Photos)
Mike D’Antoni was supposed to lead the Los Angeles Lakers’ turnaround, but 13 games into his tenure in Hollywood, any improvement by the Lakers is hard to see. The team fell to 4-9 under D’Antoni with Thursday’s loss to the New York Knicks, and the only good news for the Lakers was that Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard did not snip at each other on the court in this loss.

Dear The Los Angeles Lakers and Laker Fans
Dear Laker and Laker Fans,
Thank you for this season, really it has been too easy.
When you guys first traded for Dwight Howard I was so mad, I thought the league was rigged and I thought Kobe would get his 6th championship and tie MJ. I was pissed Orlando didn't want Pau Gasol in the deal. I was 100 percent sure Phil Jackson was going to coach you guys and win another championship...

Los Angeles Lakers at New York Knicks: Primetime TV or just Another Game?
It’s clear to see why programmers and schedulers have tonight’s Knicks, Lakers game on primetime national television. Before the season started, you had Dwight Howard against Amar’e Stoudemire, Carmelo Anthony against Kobe Bryant, and a plethora of other former all-stars going head-to-head.

Preview: Lakers vs. Knicks
Despite being the only team in the NBA that have yet to lose at home and being a game and a half in front of the defending champions for the top spot in the east, the New York Knicks (16-5) will not be the subject of conversation for tonight's first matchup with the Lakers (9-13).
Nothing against the Knicks, but that's how it goes when the team that's been synonymous...
Video: D'Antoni snaps at reporter
Things are not going right for the Lakers at all early on in the season. At 9-13, lost three in a row, and lost to the Cavaliers last night, 100-94. Needless to say, the Lakers are not living up to the hype after acquiring Dwight Howard and Steve Nash (though currently out with an injury).
Add the fact the intense public scrutiny, trade rumors swirling around Pau Gasol, and having...
