Ok, so it was only a preseason game, but Laker fans finally got a chance to see Dwight Howard in purple and gold Sunday night as Los Angeles took on the Sacramento Kings. The Lakers lost 92-99 and fell to 0-6 in the preseason, but L.A. fans should be excited about what they saw from their newly acquired center.
There were some questions whether Howard would be 100% after offseason back surgery, but he looked just fine in his Lakers debut. Howard posted a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds with 4 blocks. Steve Nash and Howard proved to be a lethal combination, as Nash threw lobs to Howard throughout the game. But the most promising aspect of tonight’s game was that Pau Gasol still managed to be effective (14 pts, 8 reb, 5 ast) with Howard on the court.
The preseason hasn’t been kind to the Lakers, who have yet to win a game thus far. But fans certainly have a lot to look forward when the regular season kicks off. The Lakers start the regular season at home against the Dallas Mavericks on October 30th.
