Welcome back, fantasy basketball owners. It’s been too long and I couldn’t be happier that the NBA is back. The gift and curse of fantasy basketball is that not nearly as many people play it as baseball and football. This is great for my twitter timeline since I don’t have to scroll through thousands of waiver wire articles and people incessantly tweeting about their line up. But it also means that the major sites don’t care as much either. Try getting any information on ESPN about the injury to Andrew Bynum, because there isn’t any except for a once a week blog post from some ESPN Philly intern who’s too afraid of Bynum’s new fro to get any sort of real news. This is why you should make sure to use my weird fascination with the NBA to your advantage. You see, when you’re scrolling through the channels and see the Bobcats are playing the Raptors and think to yourself “who the hell is watching that game?” Well, let me tell you something: I’m watching that game. And with that in mind, I bring to you, without further ado, the first waiver wire article of the new fantasy basketball season. Byron Mullens: The Bobcats are godawful, that’s a given. Byron Mullens looks like he should be just as bad, but somehow he’s not. So with this formula in mind, Byron Mullens should continue to see the type of big minutes he’s had so far this season (33.3 per game to be exact). In three games he has averages of 15.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. I expect those rebounds to get closer to 10 per, and if his coach is any indication then his point average should increase as well. With his size he can also be a steady source of blocks and as long as Bismack Biyombo continues to not get any better then Mullen’s minutes won’t go anywhere. Ramon Sessions: Sessions appears to be the primary benefactor of Gerald Henderson’s injury. Despite his poor performance in the playoffs last season with the Lakers, Sessions is good enough to start at point guard and contribute in the NBA – especially on a bad team like the Bobcats. I’m still not sold on Kemba Walker being a starting point guard, but a two guard system has worked for fantasy owners in Charlotte at time last season so there is no reason to think it can’t again. Sessions is a better player than DJ Augustine and his numbers, if given the proper amount of minutes, should indicate that. For now though, there appears to be enough to go around down in Charlotte to make Sessions at least a great temporary add and a possible steal if he wins the starting point guard role. AJ Price: With John Wall out until December at the earliest, Price could fill in nicely for the next month or so. He’s been getting better in every game played so far, and against the Celtics it appeared that his range from behind the arc was limitless. I wouldn’t expect huge numbers, but he should continue to put up solid, balanced nights. Shannon Brown: Phoenix is where good basketball goes to die and that has been fitting in great with Shannon Brown’s playing style. He hasn’t been getting huge minutes, but when he has been in the game the production has been there. At a position where just about every player outside of the top tier is a streaky as they get, you could do a lot worse than streaming Brown for a couple games and see if this hot streak becomes a trend. Larry Sanders: Sanders is young, athletic and has been steadily improving every game. Samuel Dalembert is old, breaking down and a cantankerous asshole. Even in a bench role, Sanders has been able to produce great numbers so far. If he were to take over the starting job then those numbers would only increase. Add him while you can. Jarret Jack: Another beneficiary of an injury, this one might be a permanent upgrade. Brandon Rush is out for the season and the Wizards, if they are going to win any game, need to score and score a lot. Mark Jackson likes playing Steph Curry at the two and Jack can give him the ability to do that. Last season in New Orleans Jack did more than exceed expectations and if he’s given the minutes out in Golden State then he is going to produce. He can provide a good mix of points, assists, rebound and steals, so he’s worth an add if you’re looking for help at the PG position.
