As the NBA free agency began one of the former North Carolina basketball player that I had posted about was Danny Green, who was looking at all of his options. Well, from both his twitter account and several online articles it seems that the the guard has signed with the San Antonio Spurs. From it seems that the contract will a three year deal worth $ 12 million and fully guaranteed. Just like I said in another post about the young man it must be an awesome feeling being a well paid player in the National Basketball Association for someone that less than a year ago did not know if he would find his way back on to a NBA franchise once the lock out was over.

Its been a wild road and I’m not done yet…but I’m a very happy man right now lol…looks like I’ll b a spur for a lil while longer #GSG

Up to this past season Danny Green had played in 28 games, never starting, since he had entered the NBA as the 46th overall pick. With the Spurs, where the guard found his role as an outside shooter, he started in 38 games and played in all 66 games of the shortened season. Even without having a great post season the 6’6″ guard averaged 9.1 points per game while shooting 44.2% from the field and 43.6% from beyond the arc. In all the young man averaged 23.1 minutes per game, which means that the team felt he could be on the floor without being a liability. For a team that is looking to be back atop of the Western Conference that has to make Green feel very good about this contract.

Of course now we will be watching how Green will do in his next three seasons with a team that was the best of the West in 2011. Many analysts thought that he was a priority signing for the San Antonio franchise, and now he is going to be back with them. For the former North Carolina basketball player, who was a national champion under head coach Roy Williams, it will be interesting to see what he does going forward without the pressure of looking for a contract in the years to come. As I do with all the present and former Tar Heels let me be the first one to wish all the best to Danny Green as he begins the next chapter of his professional career with the San Antonio Spurs.

The Spurs have signed Danny Green for his three point shooting, but against FSU the forward had two wild blocks in the same game…

San Antonio Spurs' Manu Ginobili will be going for another medal this summer at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
