During the second quarter of tonight’s Los Angeles Lakers game, Pau Gasol took off down the court for what appeared to be an uncontested dunk. Pau caught a long pass from Ramon Sessions and took flight but Memphis Grizzlies forward Rudy Gay had other thoughts. Gay sprinted down court and made a beautiful block from behind, denying Gasol of an easy two points.

Video: Gasol signs crazy amount of autographs

Athletes in the NBA are asked to endure some grueling stretches of practices and games, especially given this condensed season. With so many back-to-back's and even some back-to-back-to-back games, it'll be amazing if all players don't end up hurt and completely fatigued by the time the playoffs roll around. Not only are the players asked to entertain us on the court...

Rudy Gay Makes A Declaration Via Tattoo

Rudy Gay has a couple tattoos.  Who knew?  I certainly didn’t, at least not until a few hours ago.  “Me against the world,” they declare; “me against” on the right arm, and “the world” on the left.  Based on a quick bit of research, it seems that he added the ink during the lockout.  I suppose he must’ve felt slighted during the Grizzlies’ 2011 playoff run…...

Lakers struggle in possible playoff preview

Observing the closing minutes of the Lakers 102-96 loss to Memphis on Sunday night, it was hard to figure out. Why was Kobe Bryant anchored to the bench with the outcome still in doubt? A healthy Kobe sitting on the sideline in crunch time is pretty much unthinkable. Not on Sunday night, though. Coach Mike Brown pulled Bryant with 5:45 left during a timeout he called after watching...

Video: OJ Mayo hits circus reverse layup

O.J. Mayo had one of the best reverse layups I have seen in quite a while. Check out the below video from Sunday night when the Memphis Grizzlies were in Los Angeles to play the Lakers and O.J. nails a very impressive circus shot around Pau Gasol. This looks like the O.J. Mayo who played just down the street at from Staples when he was at USC. Click here to view the embedded...

Kobe Drops $329K on a Ferrari

According to a report by TMZ, Los Angeles Lakers All-Star guard Kobe Bryant made an expensive purchase recently.  Kobe paid for a new Ferrari 458 Italia for $329,000.  Perhaps this is another one of his bachelor purchases?  Or perhaps this is a purchase to gift to his newly acquired teammate, Ramon Sessions, as a way to say thanks for someone to pass him the ball all the time...

Kobe unhappy after sitting in crunch time

Observing the closing minutes of the Lakers' 102-96 loss to Memphis on Sunday night, it was hard to figure out. Why was Kobe Bryant anchored to the bench with the outcome still in doubt? A healthy Kobe sitting on the sideline in crunch time is pretty much unthinkable. Not on Sunday night, though. Coach Mike Brown pulled Bryant with 5:45 left during a timeout he called after...

Lack of bench scoring could hurt the Lakers come playoff time

The Lakers clearly were one of the trading deadline winners, acquiring point guard Ramon Sessions from the Cavaliers for Luke Walton and Jason Kapono. The team also got more frontcourt depth, trading the aging Derek Fisher to the Rockets for Jordan Hill. Sessions in particular was a great acquisition, as he gives the Lakers a true scoring threat at point guard that can attack the...

Jim Buss: Lakers are team to beat in West

The Thunder have the best record in the Western Conference but that means little to Lakers executive Jim Buss. The team vice president spent 45 minutes with ESPN Radio hosts Steve Mason and John Ireland Friday talking about the team. Toward the end of the interview, he declared the Lakers the team to beat in the West. “I think we’re the team to beat,” Buss said in response...

Lakers-Warriors Preview

Kobe Bryant is mired in a bit of a scoring slump, and the Los Angeles Lakers have had some trouble slowing down opponents. A game against the struggling Golden State Warriors could be the answer to both of those problems. Bryant and the Lakers look to continue their dominance over the Warriors Tuesday night at Oracle Arena. After winning eight of 10, Los Angeles has dropped three...
