According to Ronald Tillery of the Commercial Appeal, the Memphis Grizzlies have come to an agreement with their former assistant coach Dave Joerger, so that he can take over for the recently departed Lionel Hollins, as head coach. Griz have finalized head coaching contract with Dave Joerger, per source. Staff still being assembled although Bob Thornton will be retained — Ronald Tillery (@CAGrizBlog) June 25, 2013 Joerger served as an assistant coach for Hollins since 2007 and is seen by the Grizzlies organization as the perfect candidate to take over the vacant position. Ken Berger of CBS Sports, says that the team will officially announce the hiring at a news conference later this week. New Grizzlies coach Dave Joerger will be introduced in a news conference on Thursday morning, sources say. — Ken Berger (@KBergCBS) June 25, 2013 The Grizzlies are taking a pretty big gamble here by allowing Hollins to leave after he lead to the team to heights it had never seen before. Good NBA coaches don’t grow on trees, they better hope the unproven Joergen is the coach they think he is.
