Ben Wallace returned to the Pistons with little more than mentoring responsibilities expected of him. From day one he gave the team more than they could have ever bargained for, and at a bargain price no less. Upon signing his one year deal they said Ben figured to be the 5th big man in the rotation but on opening night he was the starting center.

After a couple of seasons plagued with injury Ben started the first 60 games for the Pistons this season, but then suffered a knee injury that kept him out for eight straight. Wallace re-aggravated the injury in his first game back to action and he looks to be done for the season.

How does Ben Wallace, who’ll be 36 in September, figure into the Pistons future? Joe Dumars will have some tough decisions this offseason.

Ben’s proven he’s still got plenty of game left in him when he’s healthy. Ben, who was near retirement at the end of last season, said he’ll play as long as his body holds up.

Being one of the few silver linings in a very dark season of Pistons basketball fans got to fall back in love with the guy who once epitomized their team, but bolted for the big payday. Do we now have to say goodbye once more?  If so I’m personally more comfortable with this send off as opposed to the last.
