Shams Charania reported that the Washington Wizards are Trae Young's "top preferred trade destination" on Wednesday. They also might be Young's only option.
One of the biggest storylines in the NBA over the last few days has been the report that Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks are working together to find a new home for the All-Star.
Jalen Johnson has transformed into an All-Star caliber player this season for the Atlanta Hawks, and he’s doing everything for them. The forward is averaging 23.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 8.4 assists, and has tried to keep the Hawks afloat for the most part this season with several injuries to some key players.
The Wizards are sitting at the top of Trae Young’s wish list. That’s the word from ESPN’s Shams Charania, who said on NBA Today that the Wizards have gained traction in trade discussions with the Hawks.
Part of what makes the NBA, or any pro sports league, so compelling to watch is the narratives, especially those centered on rivalries. Throughout the decades, the NBA has fostered a number of rivalries, some long-lasting and others short but sweet.
According to several reports, the Wizards are the team most aggressively pursuing Hawks All-Star point guard Trae Young, and the interest appears to be mutual, at least from Young’s perspective.
Atlanta Hawks star guard Trae Young would prefer to relocate to the nation's capital, home of the Washington Wizards, ESPN reported on Wednesday. As the sides amicably discuss a deal to move Young, the report added guard CJ McCollum's expiring contract would be included in the deal.
The Atlanta Hawks will probably look different soon, as the team and Trae Young are working together to find the guard a new home. Young has not played much this season with the Hawks, but when he has, the team is just 2-8.
The Hawks have waived center Malik Williams, who had been on a two-way contract with the team, according to a press release. Because the move occurred prior to the league-wide salary guarantee date, Williams will receive just a prorated portion of his two-way salary.
