Hawks’ Trae Young, Dejounte Murray break silence on relationship amid trade rumors

After winning the NBA Draft Lottery the Atlanta Hawks have a plethora of options on the table. The franchise faces a pivotal offseason that could set them up for the next several years. Trade rumors regarding Trae Young and Dejounte Murray have been running rampant but they’ve been picking up steam since the Lottery. Now, Young and Murray open up about their relationship amid the ongoing trade rumors.

Young and Murray discussed their relationship during a segment on Trae Young’s show, From the Point. They each reveal they get along extremely well and love playing basketball together. If that’s the case, then a possible trade away from the Hawks would separate two players who enjoy playing alongside each other.

The Hawks largely struggled in the regular season and failed to make a postseason appearance this year. Even so, the roster has some solid talent for the front office to either continue building around or trade away. It’d be a shame to see Trae Young and Dejounte Murray be split apart, but that very well could be what Atlanta needs to right the ship.

It’s not clear what the Hawks plan to do just yet. There is just over a month before the NBA Draft so the franchise has time to evaluate their options. Considering how good Young and Murray are, Atlanta should be garnering plenty of trade offers throughout the offseason. Overall, this franchise is in a best-case scenario after winning the NBA Draft Lottery.

Should the Hawks trade Trae Young?

The Hawks will likely field offers from teams around the league in need of a point guard. Two teams that stand out are the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs. But it’s unknown whether or not those franchises have the assets Atlanta is looking for via trade. If the trade packages don’t add up then Atlanta very well could keep Trae Young and continue building around him.

Young is easily one of the best point guards in the league and the fact he’ll just be 26 years old at the beginning of next season means he’s still very much in his prime. Last season, Trae Young averaged 25.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 10.8 assists per game. He is a bit of a liability on the defensive end but teams around the league are going to express interest in him if the Hawks do decide to trade him.

Having the No. 1 pick overall in the NBA Draft is huge for the Hawks. So, it would make sense for the front office to trade Trae Young, or Dejounte Murray for that matter. This franchise has an opportunity to acquire as many draft picks and prospects as possible and enter a true rebuild. After seeing the Oklahoma City Thunder win the top seed this season after following a rebuilding plan, Atlanta might want to consider doing the same.
