Henry Sims providing spark for 76ersBack in late February on the day of the NBA trade deadline, the Philadelphia 76ers made plenty of different moves which shook up their entire roster.  One trade they made was sending Spencer Hawes to the Cleveland Cavaliers for a couple of draft picks and center Henry Sims. When the Sixers made the trade with Cleveland, their main objective was to get rid of Hawes as well as acquire some more picks for the upcoming draft.  Sims came along in the deal, but most likely was not expected to be a big contributor to the team. With the Sixers being in tank mode, every player on the team is now getting a chance to show what they can do.  For Sims, he is making the most of this opportunity as he is starting to open the eyes in the Sixers organization. He is only in his second year of his NBA career as he came out of Georgetown University.  Like a few other current Sixers players, he has bounced around quite a bit all over the country trying to find the right fit. He spent a few days as a part of the New Orleans Hornets last season, but only lasted there for about two weeks.  He spent a couple seasons in the NBA D-League as well as playing professional basketball in the Philippines. Now that he has landed in Philadelphia, he is showing some signs as to why he deserves to be in the league. Follow isportsweb on twitter Since he started with the Sixers, head coach Brett Brown has been showing more trust in Sims on a regular basis.  With the lack of depth at the center position, Sims has now earned the starting spot in the Sixers lineup. Even though the month so far has been a rough one for the Sixers, Sims has flourished in his role.  His minutes have increased tremendously since joining the Sixers as he averaging 26 minutes in the month of March. He has averaged 10.7 points while shooting 49% from the field, to go along with 5.5 rebounds per game.  He is even showing the ability to block shots which is something the Sixers have struggled with all season. Sims is coming off of his best game as a pro last night against the Sacramento Kings.  In 31 minutes of action, Sims recorded 20 points with 10 rebounds, and was 10-11 from the free throw line. “It was big.  Coming from being undrafted.  Fighting your way up from D-League to training camp,” said Sims.  “I am proud of it, but I will be more proud of a win.” This is the type of effort that the Sixers need from their entire team if they want to get better.  Sims has only been in Philadelphia for a few weeks, but realizes that he may never have another opportunity to show what he can do.  With the team being on an 18 game losing streak, there are very few players on the team who will have a guaranteed job somewhere in the league next season.  There is no question that the Sixers team is doing the best they can, but the results say otherwise. As for Sims, he is still under contact with the Sixers for next season.  He certainly has been proving to coach Brown as of late that he hopes to be a part of the team in upcoming years. With Nerlens Noel coming back next year, Sims minutes will decrease.  However, that does not mean he cannot be a good role player in the Sixers lineup. Even if he cannot find a place on the Sixers roster in years to come, he is starting to prove his value that other teams may be interested in.  Opportunities are hard to come by in the NBA, but Sims is making the most of his by showing the league that he wants to stay.
