By: Scott Burks We have all heard about the much-ballyhooed trade that rocked the NBA world by now: the four-team trade that sent Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers for some picks and a couple of scrubs.  The part of the four-teamer that folks didn’t pay as much attention to was the Philadelphia 76ers getting Andrew Bynum. As a fan of an Eastern Conference team (my New York Knicks), I believe this trade favors the 76ers more in the immediate future AND in the long run. First of all, the Sixers landed arguably the second-best center in the NBA behind Howard – ESPN First Take’s Skip Bayless would argue Bynum is the better center.  If you looked closely at the Eastern Conference teams last season, most of the contending teams went small – the only playoff team with any size was the Indiana Pacers.  I have long said that the Sixers needed a presence down low to help take the pressure off its shooters.  Bynum will help with Philly’s offensive rebounding, something they sorel...

Dwight Howard really likes being a Laker

If you are a Los Angeles Lakers fans, you will love this. If you are an Orlando Magic fan, then this will only fuel your dislike for Dwight Howard. Howard took to his official Facebook page and uploaded a drawing of him following in the line of past Laker great centers such as Jabbar and Chamberlain. Brace yourself Magic fans because this might sting a bit (h/t Orlando Sentinel...

Dwight Howard Embraces Legacy of Every Great Lakers Center Except Clyde Lovellette on Facebook (Photo)

Now that he is a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, Dwight Howard wants to make people forget that purple and gold was not his first choice while he was orchestrating his exit from the Orlando Magic. The All-Star center made a significant gesture toward that end Sunday when he posted a drawing of himself in a Lakers jersey, surrounded by the jerseys of other Lakers greats. The image...

Video: Kenny Smith on Howard over Bynum ‘Would you rather have a project or a condominium?’

According to the youtube page, this video was taken on July 5th, before the Dwight Howard trade. It was uploaded August 20th. Kenny thinks that the Lakers, with Nash, are still the #2 team in the West. He says if they get Dwight Howard and trade Bynum, they would be a dynasty for years to [...]

Pain suddenly name of game in NBA

Now that Dwight Howard has been traded and solved the summers biggest riddle, theres really only one question left:Hows the back, big fella? That seems to be something most fans and media would prefer to ignore. If not ignore, at least talk about a lot less than the fact Howard is now a member of the Lakers joining forces with Kobe Byrant, Steve Nash and Pau Gasol to form the NBAs...

Bynumbing Thoughts For Next Season

As you no doubt have heard, Andrew Bynum is the big cheesesteak in Philadelphia’s crusty roll. He just came off a career year with the Lakers and will only be 25 this season, so there are expectations that he will rise above and beyond what he has already done. I do like Bynum, let me get that out of the way, but there are many alarming aspects about the big guynum: 1) He can...

Lakers have improved, but championships aren’t won in August

There is something to be said about being a cockeyed optimist. So, I will say it: It’s not a good practice to which to adhere. Keep in mind, that sentence was written by someone who is the nonfiction equivalent of Chicken Little. I, like everyone else, tend to get wrapped up in what’s popular, or “trending” as the zeitgeist would have it. The only problem is I’m usually...

Bynum Deal Could Blow Up In Sixers’ Face Or Be a Crown Jewel

Andrew Bynum’s talent is undeniable. And his acquisition by the Philadelphia 76ers was a no brainer. If you have the opportunity to pick up one of the best centers in the NBA, then you go for it. The Sixers did, and the rest is pretty much history. Or is it? Bynum will provide the Sixers with the size and star that they so sorely lacked in seasons past. Other key acquisitions,...

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Says Andrew Bynum Wasn’t “Focused” on Winning

This isn’t ground breaking news from Kareem. Just confirms what we already knew. “Dwight is very committed to playing and winning,” Abdul-Jabbar said. “Andrew has been up and down on that issue. There are times he wants to play, do a great job and he goes out and does it. Then there are other times where it seems like he’s not focused. …”When I first started working...

Andrew Bynum: The Next Elton Brand?

In this modern age of the NBA superstar, 76ers fans should be overjoyed at Andrew Bynum’s willingness to express that he foresees a future with the team and organization. Of course in doing so, Bynum is giving up much leverage at the bargaining table. Besides, after the 76ers experience with Elton Brand I’m sure the team will be taking the proper precautions before making another...
