Clearly we are no longer in the 1980s (or 1990s, as Blake Griffin would have you believe... read on). When making a television commercial, it is no longer sufficient to (1) present a product and (2) attach a famous sportsperson's face to it and (3) profit. Whilst back in the day many TV spots featuring NBA stars were merely an awkward, unimaginative placement of said hoops player's face, times have changed. The latest run of advertisements to hit our screens feature great use of irony and humor. Quite frankly, the current era of self-aware, well-polished stars makes for a much better advertising product -- the agencies must be cheering. Three commercials have come out recently, separately featuring Blake Griffin (KIA), Kevin Durant (Sprint) and Chris Paul (State Farm). You can check out each of the videos below for yourself. Things to look out for: Awesome delivery by Griffin of his final line; What did you think the mother was thinking about getting KD to do? CP3 has this acting thing down pat.
