I'm Not A Coach, But...

Oh, as a matter of fact, I AM a coach - well, a former coach of 13 years in middle, high school, AAU, and collegiate woman's basketball! And I have to say, although the Warriors style is very exciting, and I don't actually want to criticize it, how many times do you have to fall behind, and spend the whole game clawing your way back (many times to fall just a few points short of a win), before you consider a little tweaking? I love fast-paced basketball, and spent my childhood absolutely mesmerized by the Lakers Showtime, but shouldn't your style work for you moreso than against you? I don't want the Warriors to abandon everything they do but it would be nice to see the take-a-jumper-at-any-time philosophy occasionally replaced with an understanding of time and score. For example, if the other team has just reeled off 10 straight points in the paint, is it really the right time to come down a hoist a three? Or, would the Warriors be better served running just a few seconds off the clock, if only to disrupt the rhythm of the opponent. Am I the only one whose excitement is mixed with equals parts trepidation on most offensive possessions? Yes, the Warriors have a winning record. They are many times very exciting to watch - last year's playoff series against Dallas was unbelievable. They are playing to their strengths. And, no, they may not have the roster that allows them to slow things down. But falling behind early is beginning to bite them in the ass. And I refuse to believe that the only solution to falling behind is to jack up even more jumpers. Let's figure it out! Maybe Chris Webber will be a part of the solution. Sorry, Boom, but the Houston game sent me over the edge.
