The Cleveland Cavaliers have assembled a summer league team of young veterans and free agents, including reigning 2011-12 Kia NBA Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving, All-Rookie Second Team member Tristan Thompson and 2012 draft picks Dion Waiters (fourth overall) and Tyler Zeller (17thoverall), to participate in the 2012 NBA Summer League, Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant announced today from Cleveland Clinic Courts.

Joining the four recent draftees include Cavaliers Luke Harangody, Samardo Samuels, DJ Kennedy and Donald Sloan along with undrafted free agents Washinton University’s Justin Holiday (brother of Philadelphia’s Jrue), St. Mary’s Rob Jones, Missouri’s Matt Pressey (son of Cavs assistant coach Paul Pressey), Temple’s Michael Eric and Garrett Temple who has been in the league for two seasons out of LSU.

A noteable omission is Kevin Jones, the undrafted power forward who was linked to the team just moments after the 2012 NBA Draft came to a conclusion. Jones is presently nursing an injury, but both parties expect the West Virginia product to be ready for training camp.

The 2012 NBA Summer League will be held July 13-22 in Las Vegas, NV with the Cavaliers playing a five-game schedule at the COX Pavilion and Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.  The Cavaliers have competed in the league each summer since its inception in 2004.

The Cavs will open summer league play with three games in three consecutive days: a contest versus Charlotte on Sunday, July 15th, a matchup against the NBA D-League Select Team on Monday, July 16th and a showdown against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday, July 17th. Cleveland closes summer league with back-to-back games on Thursday, July 19th versus Minnesota and Friday, July 20th against the New York Knicks. NBA TV will televise 56 live summer league games from both The AirTran Orlando Pro Summer League and the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, including four of the Cavaliers’ five games.

The Cavaliers’ Summer League team will be coached by Wine and Gold assistant coach Jamahl Mosley.
