Has the rookie center finally ascended? Is he ready to come out of the shadows of a D-League phenom and step into the spotlight as an NBA star? Has he done enough to convince Danny Ainge that this is the man who will give the Celtics the size they need to truly compete for a championship sans Rondo?
Fab Melo will be placed on the active list and will be in uniform tonight for the #Celtics— gary washburn (@GwashNBAGlobe) February 1, 2013
Yeah, probably not.
This has more to do with Jared Sullinger's injury. Meaning that you aren't likely to see Sully suit up against the Magic tonight. For that matter, you might not see much of Fab Melo either. D-League phenom or not, I can see Doc going with Jason Collins and Chris Wilcox over the promising Brazilian rookie. Unless, of course, the Celtics feel they are in, "the year's done anyway" mode and want to see what Fab Melo's got.

Jason Terry is drawing interest from several teams. According to CBS Sports' Ken Berger, teams have been calling Boston GM Danny Ainge and "inquiring whether Boston is willing to trade Jason Terry to get
under luxury tax."
However, the Celtics "remain in wait-and-see mode and have not indicated a strong appetite to deal," Berger reported. Of course...
Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
“We have two open roster spots, which we will use when it’s all said and done,” said Ainge. “So three weeks from now, we will have 13 contracts. But we’re not in a rush yet. We have trade possibilities...
The Celtics are now 2-0 since losing Rajon Rondo for the season with an ACL tear in his right knee. A vocal minority have speculated that perhaps this team might be better off without the services of the All-Star point guard, a notion the coach dismissed quickly on Thursday.
“That’s silly,” Rivers said. “The bottom line is that you’d rather have him. But we...
Life is indeed cruel. Just as Celtics fans were starting to feel good about the rest of the season without Rondo, they get another blow that may be even tougher to take. Jared Sullinger will undergo back surgery and will miss the rest of the season. Last year it was Jeff Green and Chris Wilcox with heart surgery and this season it's Rondo's knee and Sully's back...
The Celtics, now 23-23, will play their toughest game this week tomorrow afternoon against the Clippers. The Clippers are a terrific 34-14 and third place in the western conference. Personally, I think they are the favorite to win the title. Remember, there's no Jared Sullinger, so it'll be tough. Here are tomorrow's five things:
5. KEEP BARBOSA HOT:
Back in mid-2011 when the Boston Celtics (infamously) traded for Jeff Green, many C's fans had different views on what he could bring to the Green. Personally, I was pretty optimistic about Green, as he was averaging 13 PPG & 5 RPG, in 32 minutes per contest, of course as a starter in Oklahoma City. Jeff Green had appeared to be a fixture for the future of OKC along with...
Danny Ainge said he would never fall into the same trap that plunged the Celtics into NBA purgatory for fifteen long years.
“ I sat with Red (Auerbach) during a Christmas party (in the 1990s),” Ainge, the Celtics general manager, told the Boston Globe in a January interview a year ago. “ Red was talking to Larry, Kevin, and myself and there was a lot of discussion at the time...
Not even a week after losing their All-Star point guard, Rajon Rondo to an ACL injury, the Celtics have now lost their promising rookie forward to a season-ending back injury. Sullinger underwent successful lumbar disc surgery Friday and is expected back at the start of next year’s training camp.
According to ESPN Boston:
Boston Celtics rookie forward Jared Sullinger underwent...
Jared Sullinger's rookie season has come to an abrupt end. The Boston Celtics rookie will miss the rest of the season due to a back injury.
Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Sullinger's back will require surgery. Sully had experienced back pain for a few weeks and finally was forced to leave Wednesday's game with the injury. Brandon Bass should pick...
Boston Celtics forward Jeff Green has been making his name this season with his huge dunks. He didn't let us down last night against the Orlando Magic either. He threw down two huge dunks and both of them landed on the SportsCenter top 10. Check them out below.

According to a press release by the Celtics Sully has undergone successful back surgery.
The Boston Celtics announced forward Jared Sullinger underwent successful lumbar disc surgery today at the New England Baptist Hospital. Surgery was performed by the medical staff at the New England Baptist Hospital which is under the direction of Celtics Team Physician, Dr. Brian McKeon....
Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett each had a double-double, and the Boston Celtics responded to yet another blow to their lineup with a 97-84 win Friday night over the Orlando Magic, who lost their eighth straight game.
Pierce had 14 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists despite sitting out the fourth quarter. Garnett finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Celtics, who learned...
BOSTON — Courtney Lee is the same place before every game. The Celtics shooting guard sits at his locker, surrounded by empty stalls, having gotten in all the practice shots he needed earlier in the day. After each game, he dresses quietly, pausing to answer questions from the few reporters who break away from the scrums around Paul Pierce or Kevin Garnett.
Lee, in other words...
The Celtics are feeling pretty good about their recent success without two of their key players and are looking to continue building on it. They are feeling more comfortable with the run and gun style and have found it has made them more aggressive with their attacks.
They have managed to beat the Miami Heat during this revival of grit and balls; but since the Heat are a natural...
