It's all fun and games until someone shatters the backboard. You might remember Ivan Johnson as the guy who clashed with Kevin Garnett during last season's Celtics-Hawks playoff series, or you might know him for one of several other instances of questionable behavior. Now, going forward, you can think of him as the guy who put an abrupt stop to practice because the backboard couldn't withstand his fury. Johnson's teammates, Al Horford and Mike Scott, tweeted photos of a shattered backboard on Monday, claiming that Johnson was the man responsible. That shouldn't come as too much of a surprise considering the fury with which Johnson often plays, but it really threw a wrench into Atlanta's practice plans. Don't worry, though. Scott has already apologized to Butler -- where the practice was held -- for Johnson's apparent lack of manners. Check out the tweets and photos below. Ivan cracked the Backboard at practice today! It was a wrap after that.lock...

Hawks forward breaks backboard at practice

It appears that the backboards at whatever collegiate facility the Hawks practiced at this morning were not ready to handle the punishment that Ivan Johnson was set to dish out. This fact is evidenced by the photo above, in which you can see a scowling Johnson discussing the glass he shattered with a reporter (or maybe he’s showing her the diamonds in his teeth, I don’t know...

Atlanta Hawks Ivan Johnson Shatters Backboard at Practice (Video)

Meet Atlanta Hawks forward Ivan Johnson who shattered the backboard glass at Hinkle Fieldhouse on the campus of Butler University during a morning practice the day before the Hawks 4th preseason road game vs. the Indiana Pacers.  Clearly this doesn't happen too often these days compared to back in the 90s with all the hoop upgrades, so this is pretty impressive by Ivan. ...

Cue the Josh Smith Rumors

The NY Daily News had this little tidbit hidden away in an article yesterday: Josh Smith has told the Hawks that he isn't going to sign an extension during the season. He'd rather wait to become a free agent, when he can get a five-year deal. An extension would limit him to a three-year deal, according to the new CBA rules. New GM Danny Ferry has upwards of 10 players...

Atlanta Hawks Plan To Overwhelm Opponents With Speed

Jacob Eisenberg reports on how the Atlanta Hawks figure to compensate for their lack of size with their overabundance of speed.

Is Josh Smith destined for Los Angeles?

Josh Smith isn't signing a contract with the Hawks and will be an unrestricted free agent next Summer. He's been asking out of Atlanta for quite some time now, but hasn't done it as douchey of a way as other stars have, so the Hawks have held on to him. For a quick second he almost had a change of mind  in this Summer after the Hawks unloaded Joe Johnson's contract...
