LOS ANGELES, CA - Last night JaVale McGee came up big for the Nuggets, turning in the best-yet performance of his erratic career while keeping his team’s playoff hopes alive. After the game, the goofy and gifted young center credited an unexpected source for his improvements: inspiration from the popular Dreamworks Animation film Kung Fu Panda.

McGee’s teammate Arron Afflalo explained, “JaVale had gotten real down on himself for being such a laughing stock and never meeting people’s expectations. Then when he saw that movie a couple weeks ago, things clicked. He’s just like Po,” the pratfall prone CGI bear with a negative self-image and serious talent.

“I really felt like tonight was my ‘battling Master Shifu with chopsticks for a bowl of rice’ moment,” McGee beamed. “I’ve taken the next step. I’m completely ready for my epic battle with Tai Lung... err... Kobe."

A face only a mother could love. The Los Angels Lakers failed to wrap up their first round series with the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night. The Nuggets forced a Game 6 back in Denver on Thursday night with a 102-99 victory.  Despite 43 points from Kobe Bryant, it was too much JaVale McGee and Andre Miller. Andre Miller Showing Lakers There Is Far More Left in Tank for Veteran Point Guard

Few post-trade scenes have been surreal as the one with Andre Miller back in 2006, when the Denver Nuggets shipped him to Philadelphia in a swap that amounted to Miller for Allen Iverson. In the conference call with reporters, Miller admitted he was driving around Colorado on a snowy evening, considering his future in the NBA. Miller never wanted to leave Denver. He had chosen that...

Andre Miller’s half-court alley-oop to JaVale McGee

I once called the Nugget’s back-up point guard, Andre Miller, the Mayor of Lobs, and I had bloggisists laughing at me. However, as the season has moved on, they have understood my statement in relation to the veteran Nugget. He has one helluva throwing arm and can connect from practically anywhere on court. He did just [...]

Five athlete moms who had athlete kids

You know about the Mannings, the Earnhardts, the Griffeys, and the Andrettis. You’re probably familiar with Calvin and Grant Hill and Bobby and Brett Hull. These are just a few of the great father-son combos we’ve seen at the highest levels of sport. But sometimes the athletic talents and passions come from the other side of the family. Lakers-Nuggets Preview

The Denver Nuggets have crept back into their series with the Los Angeles Lakers by outrunning and outgunning their older opponents. The Nuggets will try to run them ragged again Thursday night in Game 6 back in Denver, where the mile-high altitude can be a big fatigue factor for a team long in the tooth like the star-studded Lakers. It worked great at sea level Tuesday night with...

Hoosiers, The Remake

Hollywood remakes stink.  What's beyond egregious is the reboot of the sports classic "Hoosiers".Changing the central plot revolving around Hickory High to that of this year's Denver Nuggets squad is one thing.  But replacing Dennis Hopper with 20yo unknown Savannah McMillan-Christmas in the role of "Shooter"...well that just plain stinks.
