CHARLOTTE—A decade and a half after being defeated in back-to-back NBA Finals by Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, former Utah Jazz head coach Jerry Sloan will finally have an opportunity to set in motion his dark and perverse fantasy to get even with his nemesis after accepting an invite to interview with the Jordan-owned Bobcats today.
Sloan has harbored unhealthy levels of resentment towards Jordan ever since he defeated Sloan’s Jazz in both the 1997 and 1998 NBA Finals. As seasons passed and Sloan failed to capture a championship, his only driving force became the hope of one day confronting Jordan alone in a room.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do when I get in there,” said Sloan when asked what he planned on doing to Jordan when the two meet. “I never really thought of it, I just dreamed of the opportunity."
"But when I get in there I’ll know what needs to be done,” he added with a sly smile before sitting down on a couch and rocking himself gently back and forth while repeating quietly, “For John Stockton. For Karl Malone. For Byron Russell.”
