Pass The Pill:
Much has been made of Josh Smith being a free agent after this season and whether the Atlanta Hawks will trade him before the deadline. The Los Angeles Lakers have been a popular ending point for Smith, as the team clearly needs to infuse some athleticism into their roster.
It’s unsure what kind of contract Smith will yield on the open market, as someone who can look like the best player on the floor and then the worst.
Well, according to him, he’s worth a maximum contract.
“I feel like I’m a max player,” Smith said Friday.
And yes, that is the first time he has said that.
“I feel I bring a lot to the table. I have a lot of versatility. For what I do and what I give this ball club, I feel like I’m worth it.”
It’s hard to imagine that Atlanta will give Smith a max deal, as they just dealt Joe Johnson and his huge contract this past offseason. You have to think that the team recognized their core wasn’t good enough to compete for a championship, a core that Smith has been a large part of.
Josh Smith has a ton of ability, and is the definition of a stat sheet stuffer. This season, he’s averaging 16.7 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 1.3 steals.

Josh Smith says he expected not to make the All-Star team after getting his hopes up last year. He is however, devastated, that none of his teammates made the team and 2 non-playoff bound players (Jrue Holiday and Kyrie Irving) did:
Q. What do you think about the fact that there are no Hawks on the team?
A. Now that is a devastation. To have two people … that probably aren’t...

Now I will give Josh Smith some credit that he should have made the all-star cut, but after coming off suspension, it’s safe to say that he eliminated his candidacy for the roster spot. The Hawks have only given one max contract in their history which made Joe Johnson a very rich man (six years, $123.6 million). He’s in Brooklyn now. Josh Smith believes...

Smith wasn’t named to the Eastern Conference All-Star team Thursday night. That makes eight consecutive years he hasn’t been honored. Most of those seasons, nobody could argue. But this season’s omission is a huge injustice.
Smith has been a consistent performer this season, with only a few hiccups. He has been forced to take on a bigger role...
When it is time for your big payday, you have to grab as much money as you can. Josh Smith has been waiting for this day for a while and it is coming soon.
He has been rumored to be traded for almost three years now, but wherever he ends up he believes he is worth the maximum contract available.

This is all that matters right now about [Josh] Smith, specifically regarding his tenuous future with the Hawks: His contract is expiring and his asking price for a new one is going to be high. It’s going to hit the ceiling. It’s why his days in Atlanta may be numbered.
“I feel like I’m a max player,” Smith said Friday. And yes, that is the first time he has said that....
Josh Smith's representatives will meet with Danny Ferry this week to discuss the forward's future with the Atlanta Hawks.
8 a.m. ET: Maybe Josh Smith can give his old high school teammate some pointers on getting through a rough stretch of losses. Smith and the Hawks are 5-8 in January, although they have won their last two by taking care of two sub-.500 clubs. As you might have noticed, that is exactly what the Celtics are at the moment.
Rondo’s triple-double was not enough Thursday to prevent the...
The Hawks will be able to offer Josh Smith a five-year deal worth about $94 million.
Hawks vs Knicks: ESPN 6:30pm
The Knicks played one of their worst games of the year last night in Philly and its imperative the Knicks kick off their five game home stand with some intensity. The Hawks have won three in a row, and they are the 6th seed in the East sitting just 2 games behind the Knicks. Against Philly, the Knicks were outshot 51% to 35% from the field and...
Well, that wasn't fun. It's becoming clear that the bench is finally coming around but now the starters are slumping. The second unit gave us that big lead in the second quarter and then it went away when the starters came back in. But there's progress. We at least got one great half of basketball. One thing that always strikes me is all the complaints...
